I can't help you Bob. My computer is a low end computer and I can't play SH5 so if your question is about game play I am not much help.

Hopefully someone else will read your question and be able to help.

Scotty I hope this answers your question.

After going to the attack periscope, you will see two small arrows on the lower left corner of the screen. One angled up and to the right (open and maximize) the other angled to the bottom and to the left (close and minimize) the TAI. Click on the up arrow to open it and then you can resize it by dragging the edges. From there you simply click on your sub (zoom in and out with the mouse wheel) and set course by dragging the mouse where you want to go, to change directions at a waypoint simply click on it and then click again on the new point. To erase a waypoint right click it. This is the same as the nav map.

I hope this helps if not let me know what you want to know and I will see if I can answer it better.

Everyone has found this game difficult to learn. The in-game tutorial was much too short and incomplete and the user's manual is almost a complete waste.

Be patient, ask for advice from those that have gone before you and start adding some of the many wonderful mods now available. It can be a terrific game to play!

BTW, you can also use the Tab key to open the TAI, expand the TAI and then close it.

    Happy hunting!

Kenvoss, "BTW, you can also use the Tab key to open the TAI, expand the TAI and then close it."

Thank you. Didn't know that hotkey!

Not that I play SH5 anymore, but I appreciate it all the same!

Thanks for the help. As you say the manual is practically useless. Makes you wonder why a game developer would ever do that.
I take it, in order for the sub to travel it must be plotted using the TAI? Until such times as I run across another ship. As well this function is only available at the con? I do not understand what they are saying in the manual re time compression? As well, how do I bring up the navigation map? I know that the M key will give a map but were is the world map?
All very frustrating, I really just think sometimes "why bother", it can be so time consuming.

Thanks in advance and Merry Xmas to you and yours.

The manual is almost as useless as the unmodded game, I did say almost.

Ah the nav map is the ship wheel on the right side of the screen, it also acts as the "world map if you zoom far enough out. lol. To zoom use your mouse wheel. You can navigate the sub using either map, by clicking and setting way points. The time compression key (speed up) is the plus ("+") sign on the number pad and the (slow down key)is the minus ("-") key. Be careful with time compression in ports and around other ships you can have accidents quickly!

Scotty, I wish you and your family a very healthy and safe Christmas, may you be surrounded by those you love as well as those you love in return.

PS: Your frustration has only begun, if you understand how to use them MOD your game heavily other wise you have a nice shiney coaster.

You can plot your course via the TAI, the navigation map (my preference), or you can manually pilot your boat without setting plot points. Clicking the Right Arrow key turns your boat slightly to the right and, of course, clicking the Left Arrow key turns you left. For hard turns, you click Shift Left or Right Arrow keys. To go straight, again, (rudder amidships), click the 0 (zero) key on the number pad. BTW, you'll probably need to have NumLock active for the 0 key to work.I especially like manually guiding my U-28 out of and into ports!

Also, you can give orders to steer the boat by clicking on the appropriate heading on your compass ribbon.

    Happy hunting!

Well I am slowly learning the control of the boat! BUT how the heck do I go from external view back to the Con. Have not been able to find that secret button.LOL
When you say the WHEEL on the right side, were are you in the ship?
Sorry to be such a pain with the questions. Can you imagine were I would be if I only had the useless Dang manual?

    Thank you gentlemen ALL
