Great song Celeon.I used to have every LP (that's, "Long Play" record
) that the Stones ever put out, up to 1988. In some spontaneous impulse, I gave them all to my oldest sister, who is also a big Stones fan. Now, I have but a handful left.

Classics, to me are THE classics....To wit...
Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the 2nd movement, which has an rise and ebbing quality reminiscent of a wave-like motion. Possibly the very best of any music ever written. Closely followed by his "Emperor" piano Concerto.
And all of this from a man who lost his hearing at quite a young age.
Allegedly, Beethoven was said to have sawed the legs off his piano so that he could put his ear to the floor and feel the vibrations of each note as he pounded the keys.Originally posted by nohunt1:

Wernher...Did you ever get to see the movie "Immortal Beloved"..?? It's about B's frustrated love affair with the woman who eventually was to be his brother's wife....
I don't know if there is any truth to it, but it gives an insight into the passion the man must have had burning inside, which clearly comes through in his music...
I've heard of the movie but haven't seen it yet. I saw Amadeus and loved it, even though it's a speculative account. I remember that I wanted to see Immortal Beloved. Thanks for the reminder.

My first ever LP purchase was their album "Suitable for Framing". A guy I went to grammar school with is related (2nd cousin) to the lead singer with the long hair and mustache (Chuck Negron -I think). I wasn't even a teenager yet, but I purchased it for this song:

Yes, I've liked the Beethoven symphonies from the moment I heard them - first time was probably the Disney movie Fantasia, which has excerpts of the 6th. It's possible I may have seen Fantasia after first watching the Huntley-Brinkley Report, which began every show with the opening of the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 9th. In any case, when I was a little older, I had records of all nine symphonies conducted by Toscanini.Originally posted by nohunt1:

I don't like all of the symphonies. As I am wont to say, I like all of the odd-numbered symphonies except the first and dislike all of the even-numbered symphonies except the 6th.
Here's one, from across the pond and Iron Curtain

Interestingly, although I generally don't care for Mozart, I've always liked this piece. Also like Symphony #41 and THE MAGIC FLUTE.Oh, BTW, this is Classical, not to be confused with The Classics.![]()

The Adagio from the Clarinet was prominently featured in Out of Africa.
