Thank you, Schmouddle-WT. I shall add the link you've provided to the list.![]()
Hi all,
I know it does not count in the strict "served in world war II" catagory but HMS Alliance at Dolphin, Gosport, is on static display in the former RN submarine service home base.
The boat was originally an A or Amphion class sub which began build in 1945, but was completed in 1947. She has had significant structural changes since then to keep her up to date during her long career with the RN.
However, she is a wonderful example of this era of technology and design and is well worth a visit.
Great thread by the way.
Not yet, but I'm fixing to go see the Lionfish this weekend (it's about four hours from here and I'll be near Fall River tomorrow). I visited it twice or thrice when I was a kid but never could get any good pictures with my dad's antique flashless camera. This time - PANORAMA PICSHOOT, PEOPLE!!! Need some serious visual reference for the novel I'm working on.Originally posted by snakeyez77:
Summer 2009 is fully underway, surely some of you guys have paid a visit to a museum submarine near you?
I saw the Becuna and the Torsk once when I was living near Philly (and visiting Baltimore), but again, was photographically challenged. Other than that, the rest of our retired silent warriors are well over a day's travel away. Maybe one of these days if the novel should somehow find its way into print and I find myself independently wealthy - road trip FTW!!! Every naval museum in the continental United States, here I come!!
and heres one for the uk anybody up near liverpool will enjoy this one
