There are a lot of challenges that come with an online game and I think a lot of the characteristics associated with an online game directly contradict what they are trying to do with feel and gameplay.
Death match / CTF / Assault is one thing.
Bringing another uncontrollable entity into the main (single player) world is totally different.
Well what type of online game are you referring your idea to? Online roleplaying? Multiplayer games such as Team Chaos?Originally posted by Gareth_047:
i was thinking the other day about farcry online and i think it would be a good idea if it was online. the map is ment to be huge and it seems like a bit of a wast of space. it would make the game much more fun if you could have co-op options.
ok i play quite a fiew games and i think what makes a good game like this even better, is being able to play it with your friends. i am not talking about loads of people running around like a shootem ep but maybe 5 or 6 people being able to work together and forming plans. imagen going through the game with your friends being there also. having somthing like that in the game will also give people more to talk about and make people more interseted in it. insted of saying o yeah i was playing on farcry last night its realy good. people dont care. but if you say o yeah i was playing farcry with jack and dave last night it interests more and will make people more eager to play and buy the game.
i am not trying to say online is better. fair enough if you like to play games by yourself its up to you. i know some people might think that its to much of an obligation if your playing with a group of people. but personaly i think it would be cool to have a game where i could play with my friends.
being able to help one another.
being able to travel together and break in to camps with each other
and dont get me wrong i think the buddy idea is brill. i like that idea very much. but it still isnt going to beat real friends. if you dont like my view then fair enough. if you do then great. its just a sugestion.
Don't get me wrong, almost every game can benefit from a multi-player of one type or another. I think it's a great idea, but multi-player co-op would take a lot of effort to get right. It should not be implemented if its not going to be. Since it's an "in house" engine I am not familiar with what it is capable of. It might be entirely impossible to add a co-op aspect to the single player world (that or take a lot of work to accommodate it).
I would rather have them totally focused on a single player experience than spending their development time implementing a co-op mode.
I think it would be very nice if UBI would make a MP-map in the form of a hotel-lounge/bar in Nairobi ( as there would be no fighting -except an occasional fistfight?-there would be ample room for logged-in players!) and set it up on a server as a portal to MP-servers anywhere: people could hangout there and meet other players, chat & have a drink together, and form teams to go play somewhere on a server.
It could also be a center for MP-maps exchange,a forum for MP-play and FarCry2 News & Blogs!
