Cool, I wish I lived near enough to come check it out.

Amazing story behind that bird. I wonder if anyone has plans to deep thaw the other Lightnings that bellied in that day.

I have fond memories of flying into Lakeland for Sun-N-Fun several times, but I haven't flown since July of 2001 and won't be going this year. I see Steve Hinton is pictured with Glacier Girl. He did the maiden flight of Glacier Girl when she was first restored. Steve is the curator of the Planes of Fame museum in Chino, CA and also the president of Fighter Rebuilders at that same facility. Talk about an enviable career! I contacted Steve last year concerning the Lightning's FM in this sim and he said he would like to evaluate it, but I passed the torch to someone that lives close to Chino (I live in Florida) and never got feedback that they were successful in getting the software to Steve for evaluation. There is probably no more authoritative individual on the P-38 in the world today than Steve Hinton. I am sorry the opportunity was missed.

Several aircraft were at Peachtree-Dekalb for a private air show. Posted in GD about it. Since the links went dead, heres one in 800x600 at only 70kb.

I went to visit her at her home in Midd*****rough Kentucky. You wouldn't know there was a 60 year old airplane in the hanger till you walked in...or nearly so (there's a few signs).

    Beautiful aircraft...fantastic restoration.

Apparently its unlikely that other P-38s would be rescued as the insurance fees are astronomical and you really need someone with alot of money and interest to risk it.

I as at Oshkosh in 1992 when they only had recovered bits of her. Real little bits. Nose cone, engines, and the guns IIRC.

How much of the plane is rebuilt?
Are the engines the same ones that sat under the glacier etc etc?

    If anyone knows - ?
