I don't know the answer, though I'd guess that the fleet spawns within the 24 hours before it sails through the Bungo Strait. Spawning at the port of origin and then moving out would be typical. Note that on the other end, one can sometimes see a task force de-spawn - that is, watch ships sail into port and just disappear.Originally posted by LouLewis1967:

I've researched the dates of the Midway force leaving the Inland Sea as noted by others above. My dilemma is I've been sent to patrol between Area's 8 and 7, near Bungo Str., but it is early May, three weeks before they sortie. The question I had was if RSRD scripts the movements of capital ships as they assembled prior to departure on the 27th of May? According to Japanese records, for a couple of weeks in early may the combined fleet was moving into the Inland Sea to assemble at the anchorage prior to departure. Or alternatively, if I could infiltrate into the anchorage in the week prior to the fleet's departure, would I expect to find the fleet assembling there?
I'd recommend hunting in and around the Bungo Strait for three weeks, reserving enough torpedoes for the attack.

All the main TF come through 5/26 through 5/29 per history using RSRD and will come through the Bungo. Can't remember the order, but seems one is on the 26th, another the 27th and then the 29th..Seems they take about the same path, but a lil different. You sit outside the bungo these days, you find it. They also return through the bungo, prolly around 6/8-10.
Several other groups spawn in other areas, the invasion force, crudiv, support forces, seemds around Guam, they come in more south of Midway.

Ok thanks. That's kind of what I thought. Not expecting to see much until they spawn and head off. Problem is, I'm already down 10 torpedoes from earlier patrol objectives in the East China Sea. I might be better off finishing this 72 hr patrol zone and refitting back at Midway before coming back to Japan.
