(Sorry, Airmail. You know I like you.)
Just wondering if there's a consensus on this topic. It seems a reasonable question to ask since (A) most of us are older and (B) this forum centers around a Russian flight sim.
Personally, I like Finlandia. I've tried a number of brands and I'd say that comes out on top for me.
There are a few local New England brews, but I've yet to try them because they're incredibly expensive ($50-60 per 750ml.) I plan to try them when I can justify the expense, but that won't be any time soon.
Thoughts?
And if we need controversy:
I argue that vodka is better than whiskey.
And that Irish whiskey is better than Scotch (but not as good as decent vodka.)![]()
for vodka, mid price is the way to go. Nothing that interferes too much too much with the mixers.. Some are ok straight, but lets face it, no one drinks Popov because they like the taste.
as for the Scotch whiskey vodka thing..
Vodka if for getting girly drink, drunk.
Whiskey is for cleaning greasy engine parts.
Scotch is for enjoying, best if its old enough to drink itself and even better with a nice Dominican Cigar.
My girlfriend, for some inexplicable reason, likes gin. She buys Bombay Sapphire every once in a while. I don't know what it costs in the UK, but it's quite pricey in the US.Originally posted by Aimail101:
I like these threads. I'm not a Vodka person myself, I am a gin person though.
And... it tastes absolutely horrid. Quinine, is in it, for Christ's sake. It's technically an anti-malarial drug.
To me, gin tastes like what you'd get from soaking a pine bough in cheap vodka.
I can shoot vodka, whiskey, tequila, or pretty much anything else. But gin is hard for me to swallow. Definitely not my thing.

Does she mix it with Tonic? Gin is not meant for drinking straight, it's meant for drinking with Tonic water and lime.
**** I have cravings for it now. I don;t like Bombay so much prefer Gordons. It's drier.
If you don't like Gin and Tonic I'm sorry but ya have no classwhat what hip hip
BTW: The tonic water contains the quinine
I'd agree with that. Finlandia is about on par with Stoli (which also isn't too bad.) I've had pricey vodkas and haven't tasted much of a difference.Originally posted by iroseland01:

On the other hand...
My brother is partial to the super cheap stuff that is simply labeled "VODKA" in block lettering and comes in a cheap plastic bottle. I tried it once. It smelled of kerosene and burned going down--but not in the way that booze should.
So there's certainly a baseline in vodka quality. Technically, it's supposed to be flavorless. I've yet to find one that meets that criteria. Finlandia, though, seems to have the most pleasant overall flavor of those that I've tried.
I'm honestly partial to cider and wine. But when it comes to the harder stuff, I'm more of a fan of vodka and tequila than gin and whiskey.
No, she makes girly drinks. Gin is in a Long Island, right?Originally posted by Aimail101:

I tried a gin and tonic one night. I found that I had to add about 1l of tonic to make it drinkable. It's not the strength that gets me... but the taste. I've spent a lot of time in the mountains. It reminds me of eating a mountainside because of the juniper.
I prefer to smell pine rather than ingest it.

Did you put lime in it? I really don't think much of Bombay. Some gins will taste more of Juniper than others. What type of tonic did you use?
It is an incredibly refreshing drink in a muggy climate.
