Your wife enjoys the game ???, Maybe she can train our wives/girlfriends
Welcome, You will not be dissapointed. There will be lots of comparisons and nasty things said about IL2 and Oleg, but you can bet your bottom dollar, there is no better sim, and the plebs are just jealous.....

Whoa there cowboy, before you go direct download wait for somebody knowledgable to chime in. I know there are incompatibilities with some of the direct download versions, just not sure what they are. In addition, you will want to get the whole wad (Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack, Pacific Fighters). There is no cd key registration,etc.. so used copies are fine. I would suggest EBAY etc..

If you can find the "gold pack" it already has forgotten battles and ace expansion pack together, so all you would need is pacific fighters.

here are some forgotten battle games and also 1 or 2 gold packs

    here is pacific fighters

    Actually you'll need three things...

    1. FORGOTTEN BATTLES
    2. ACE EXPANSION PACK
    3. PACIFIC FIGHTERS

Your best bet would be to shop online as they can be difficult to find in stores.

    Good luck and welcome!

ps...stay away from the downloadable versions...find the discs.

    shahsxfx- chill dude!
Check the sticky at the top of this forum and get the facts on what versions you want.
If you want to fly online (and it sounds like you do) you need to be aware that different versions/patches/combinations are not compatible online.
I've seen this advice given before- check what you want to do online, what you think may best suit you, and get geared up accordingly.
If you can afford it, get the whole series, merge them, and patch up to the latest version (due very soon).
Be aware that Forgotten battles and Aces Expansion pack was released as a combined package in some countries ('Gold Pack') and there are strong rumours that a DVD of the entire series will be released soon.
    Have fun!

thanks mate, no i'm not going to run off to direct download, i'm going to go and check out the other EB in the mall, maybe they will have all of the required items.
as for what i'm looking for?
some mutly player dog fighting. thats about it.
    over europe would be cool.
but from what i gathered Sturmovik won't let do that.

blakduk is right, they will release an "air combat collection" with FB + AEP + PF. You have no use of your IL2 Sturmovik cd if you want to play online, i think that 90% playing IL2 online is using the merged installation.

Here's little info about the new DVD -> http://chaos.com/?action=view&id=754305

    It's says release date 2006-02-16
