After successfully completing Happy Time, I transferred to the Mediterranean and took “Force H” as my first mission. Thus far I’ve sunk 3 capital ships: a CL and two CA’s. I’ve seen neither hide nor hair of a BB, CV, or, most disconcerting, a transport. I’m preparing to return to base for another go but I’d like some feedback as to where I should search – I’m not sure that I trust the map reference.
And now, some screenshots.
Early on I cruised down to within 150 km or so of Malta and ran into two successive task forces centered on cruisers. I sent in TF messages in both cases and they were subjected to intense air attacks. Here is a Dido CL being dive bombed by a Ju-87:

I tarried for a while along the Malta supply route and then headed for the Western Med/Gibraltar area to seek out Force H. I conducted 3 separate attacks, each time sinking a cruiser. The second attack was conducted around midday under perfect visibility conditions. I hit my target, a Kent Class CA, with a spread of three from around 800 meters. Almost immediately I had a destroyer on me. You can see the orange symbol of my sub in the lower right corner. Note that the DD is dropping depth charges.

Here are a couple of depth charge POV shots:

Another DD joined in the attack. Plenty of depth charges were dropped although none was close. I was at 160 meters and most were exploding at about half that depth.

The two DD’s kept circling above me, dropping depth charges. I finally was able to make a break for the clear.

This was probably the most intense DD attack thus far.
Note: See Mare Nostrum Part 2 for the next installment of this "report".
Paul,
Another detailed report, your posts are very useful for finding out what the game is actually capable of.
Is tat the most sever depth charge attack youve had to date? Or just in this mission...Those attacks (as you said) were way off so no damage could be expected.
How did you get such a good view on th eatacking JU87? I can never get high enough....
The most intense attack to date. In SH3, the escorts were quite effective by this date. I don't see it in SH5 so far.Originally posted by montecristo1981:

In SH3, the external camera could achieve the same max altitude as the aircraft. Not so in SH5. However, once aircraft begin their attack run and drop to a lower altitude, you can follow with the camera.
Incidentally, this link (via Eoweth) shows the location of Force H. I'm going to check it out.
Thanks - I always look for interesting shots. Since I often coordinate my attacks based upon the phases of the moon (I've posted a link to the complete sun/moon phases for any day/year in the world), I can often arrange to attack just after moonrise or just before moonset. That always makes for an interesting picture. It's also good tactically.Originally posted by Algernon3:
Paul your posts are always worth checking out, ever would I look to see what you were up to - since early SH3 times. Great pictures too.
The air attacks I have observed thus far in SH5 have resulted in the aircraft all being cut to pieces by a concentration of fire from ships RN and merchant.
You're right about the aircraft being chewed up. However, I've also seen the gray ship sunk icon show up so that suggests that some of the attacks got through. I just haven't caught them on the external camera yet.
