...you can only do one "sleeve busting" arm workout a day? It seems that if you try to do more than one of the 12 sessions (only 10 minutes)you only get credit for 1 session? Also, the first 3 sessions have been EXACTLY the same. Do they change? Is anything unlocked at the end? I realize Mens Health attached their name to it but come on...I don't want a spa treatment - I want to lose some beer blubber and get fit!
You can do the programs that have 12 sessions in them as many times as you like in a day. I often repeat whatever one I'm working on 4 time each day, twice in the morning and twice later in the day - (plus cardio boxing silver & gold, some bollywood dancing and zen). But no matter how many times you do them in a day the session number will not advance until the first time you do it the following day. The last day is a little trickyOn the day of your 12th session YSFE will think you're done after the first session that day. If you repeat that program after that you'll be starting the program over again. So, I generally move on to something new after doing the 12th session once.
The personal training programs with 12 session do not change as they progress through the 12 sessions. Each one is the same.
Thanks nano. Yes, I just went through and did it again - I like the 20 minute 18 rep format. I'm trying to burn a min of 500 cal a day so that session is good for around 120 cal so double it and I'm half way there. Starting to get a bit sick of the gold boxing though...I hope they come up with a 30-40min boxing otherwise there is a lot of dinking around between menus!
Thanks for confirming what I suspected, before I had to ask: That the 12 sessions in the one-per-day style series are identical every day.
So that begs the next question: What is the point? If they are identical, then why does it matter if we do 12? or 10? or 1? In fact, this seems to "solve" the problem of not being able to go back and forth between the programs... it doesn't actually matter anyway! So just do "session 1" of arm-busting, then "session 1" of fat-burning, etc. if that is what you want, because there is no progression anyway!
If this is correct, it is terrible design. Not because of the net effect (there is no reason why there needs to be 12 distinct sessions). But terrible in that we have the worst of all worlds at the same time: (1) it is totally opaque as to what is going on, while (2) it frustrates the user to think he/she is not able to "make progress" or "switch between programs" or maybe will "lose progress" when in fact it is a sham anyway. The only programs that appear to "make progress" are the standard cardio, toning, and sculpting.
CliffS2, your points are all well taken and for an independent minded person doing things the way you suggest makes a lot of sense. There is no real reason to stick with the full 12 sessions if you want to bounce around and keep track of your progress in the various areas on your own. But I do think there is a bit of a point to the 12 sessions, and that is to encourage users to stick to a planned workout for a given number of times to get some benefit out of a particular area of exercise. I think a lot of users, especially those new to exercise programs, will prefer to have workout sessions served up in predictable little packages. You know - sort of like the difference between the Linux user and the Apple user![]()
OK, but what are people supposed to do after their 20 minute sheduled session if they want to work out for much longer? Do 50 games of virtual smash and then 20 goes at cardio boxing? It would be nice if we could choose a workout time (90 minutes etc) and just go - I'm sick of farting around with menus and 12 minute programs.to encourage users to stick to a planned workout for a given number of times to get some benefit out of a particular area of exercise.
I hope the wiki is going to be okay with YSFE. I think it a good idea. I was very happy to find out the routines in "The Sleeve-Busting Arms Workout" because I have been curious about trying it, because I really want to work on my arms and shoulders and I've become bored with "Toning Arms and Shoulders". But my YSFE says "Not Recommended" for this and the "Men's Fat Burner" so I was a little unsure about it. I don't know if this is just because I am a women. But now that I see the exercise list I see that I can totally do them. Thanks!
