I returned to the career of my German skipper in the U-boat missions add-on. I decided that I would try to make my attacks using inputs to the tactical map only, reverting to the Excel TDC for long distance shots. This solution has actually worked pretty well. On this, my 3rd patrol, I've achieved 6 objectives - each is worth 200-250 renown - and sunk in excess of 40K tons of shipping. I still have 12 torpedoes.
I've collected a few screen shots over the 3 patrols - I may post at some point.
Good, you returned to the bright side of the game!
As you, I'm playing with a german skipper. I'm sailing in mid 44, and a small amount of the convoys have a single DD! A good percentage of merchants don't have a single weapon!
And love to call a japanese task force to end the sinking of not so juicy ships in a convoy. Those are the truly "Happy Times"!![]()
MODS:
TMO 2.0
TMO beta patch
Max Optics IV for TMO2
IJN Radar fix for TMO2
RSRDC V502 for TMO
RSRDC V5xx patch
SCAF for RSRDC
Fixed CD sonar for RSRDC
3D TDC and Radar range unit
TMO and RSRDC do have an effect on the game in terms of graphics and traffic - better, in my view.
As I said in the thread above, the fact that I can't make a straightforward attack exclusively from the periscope or UZO is not that big of a problem. All I do is pick a bearing and AoB with no less than a 5 degree granularity, set up the attack by hand on the tactical map, then fire the single or spread "by the wire". Typically I use a 30 degree bearing from 90 degrees off the track for electrics and a 20 degree bearing for high speed T1's and FaT's.
Piece of cake...![]()

I played the Uboats once...I was lost as how to shoot and just went back to fleetboats. May give it another try down the road.
Shooting is similar to IV, just a different interface. Lock on and hit the fire button. Uses the same keys to cycle tubes and open doors.
The only real difference is the ability to fire spread shots with multiple tubes. Set this up in the tactical map view. Flip a few switches, done.
Pretty much identical to III.Originally posted by Jose.MaC:
Actually, methinks that even the spread shots are done almost in the same way than in good old SH III -not sure, maybe I've to give another try. Even the way to select the spread of the eels is pretty similar.
MWolfe up there hasn't played III, so he's a bit lost in a U-Boat.![]()

You don't lose alot, SH IV with Uboot missions has most of what SH III failed to have from the very beggining -specially avoiding to micromanage your crew or having a bunch of supersailors to drive your boot without feeling exhausted.
