Thanks Dance, the white band on the fuselage made me searching for an Italian plane.

French plane design...this one looks alright but their heavy bombers look quite, well let's say extraordinary.

    Your turn.

    Thanks Uufflakke.

Ok a quick one as I'm off to bed soon. Which was the fastest biplane of WW2 and why?

A Fiat CR.42 Falco which was equipped in 1941 with a 1000 horse power Daimler Benz 601 engine. Top speed seemed to be 323 mph.

At the time of writing of this work "Aviation: A Smithsonian Guide. Washington, DC: Ligature Inc., 1995. by Donald S.Lopez" it's the fastest biplane to fly

    Thanks.

Here's another rare gunsight from the collection at Castle Jungmann.

No secret about this one--it's a USN Mark V (ignore the wood). Actual description on the casting--U.S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance Aircraft Telescope Gunsight Mark V Mod 1. What it is is not the question.

The question is--as far as I've been able to tell, it was only used on one aircraft at one gun position. And only fairly early on in the war--it was upgraded later to another sight. For full credit, name the plane and the gun position.
