Only once have I ever bumped into a Task Force without the use of the Spy Sat mod, and I managed to sink 1 battleship, can't remember which one though. Other than that not much in the way of torpedo action against capital ships.
Try here
scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for mods starting with the letter S
You need to have the JSGME mod enabler for this to work!
After atwo weeks into GW1.1 I finally met my first Task Force
After leaving St. Nazarie for patrol 14 in late Dec '40 I made my way to grid BF13 to hunt some lonelly ships passing there... I get a message that Enemy Task force is heading South in the AM sector...
Ok, check map, check speed, check distance, torps full....well lets give it a try!
I caught with the ships South-West of Cork, Ireland: 3DD, 2 Fiji's , King George V & Revenge BB
Now for tactics, go flank under water to get the DD's attention
Sank 3 of them, damaged one Fiji which later on sank...
The BB's were getting away so Blow Balast and run flank about 4-5km away...
Cut their path and wait, George exposed himself about 2.7km an took one Magnetic fish and one Impact which luckily got the front ammo bunker and he sank like a stone... Revenge prooved to be a problem and now you will see why...
The lonely Fiji left the BB as he was damaged and doing only 10kts after taking two torps to the portside(so much for escorts, eh)
Now the hard part how to sink this BB with the 3 torps I have left?
Well, Hans, do it like the previous one...
Ok, moved ahead of him into position and shot him with last 3 torps...
2+3 that should make 5, hmmm hhe is still sailing doing 4 knots and water spiling over the portside deck....
Ok lets shadow him for a bit and see what happens....
6:27 REAL hours later he wsa still cruising at 4kts and no signs of sinking so I was getting desparate and decidet to try my 105mm deck gun against a Revenge BB
Here are the pics, I couldn't sink him.... wasted everything at him!

I consider myself lucky.... the battle started at around 22:20 (check the clock on the Screenies)Originally posted by tuddley3:
Wow prj57, you got some Big Nut Sacks. I worry about going after one Warship, let alone half the company you went after. Nice try anyways.
They didn't see me it was dark but nice wheater conditions (I love my sonar guy)
I was actually surprised to see so few ships with 2 BBs, only 3 DD and 2 Fijis... normally they travell with a lot more firepower and scan like crazy
And you are talking about me getting desparate here..... no one lives forever
Only loses I got were a killed officer on the deck but when I passed on the starboard side of the BB he couldn't shoot because he was tilted to the other side and couldn't get the guns to match the elevation
In that patrol I baged only 52k tonnage
My first career after buying the game I lucked onto a task force north of Ireland heading to Loch Ewe that had 2 Dido Cruisers and 3 Revenge Battleships, Got killed real quick by the escorts but since I was still learning the game I was not playing dead is dead, so I kept reloading the last save, each time I headed to the same area I ran into the convoy, the only difference was the type of battleships, first revenge, then king george, then nelson, finally killed 2 of them, quit that career and started a dead is dead one.
