When you Alt+Tab or Win key out of the sim what happens? What I mean is what happens in the sim? The reason why I ask this is because if you are using a MSFFB2 stick and you A+T or Win out and come back in you loose your stick tension & FFB. The stick goes limp and does nada. However if you turn FFB off in the sim you won't have the FFB inputs ie gunshake etc... but your stick tension will remain and if you A+T or Win out and ciome back it will still be there. For me the stick tension is more important than the FFB stuff.. so I just settle for turning it off in the sim and doing without it.. but it would be nice if I could figure out exactly why you loose the FFB if you Tab out. The stick will behave as if it is unplugged. It will still work, but imagine a joystick with no spring tension at all... Does anyone know what shuts down in the sim when you A+T out, or if there is a setting in windows that will keep a window active even if minimized or in both states?

It must be a MS FFB thing cause I never lost FFB when I was using my Saitek evo force and alt+tabed.

My Guillemot loses all forces whenever I alt-tab out of and back into IL2...

It goes completely limp, as I have the default centering force switched off, and use the games' forces.

So it's definately not just an MS FFB thing...

As far as I know, switching out of and back into IL2 is not supported... there's no switch or setting to prevent this loss...

(I've had it happen twice that when my aircraft gets hit, the left aileron force gets lost... stick goes limp only on the left side of the X-axis... dunno whether that's a Guillemot thing, IL2 thing, ffb files used or just a bug.)

same with an msffb1 (loss after alt+tab), and i can support urufu_shinjiro's observation about evo force not losing force.

The dreaded windows key has the same effect as alt+tab, straight to desktop and then no FFB tension.

The FFB profile is loaded into the flight you have selected when you load the mission be it a dog fight server coop mission or off line campaigns.

It seems to be input as the last thing when the mission transfer/loading had completed, I have managed to get back from desktop to game screen before the briefing room and the feedback had loaded ok but if the mission loads whilst out of the gui there's no tension.

I cant see what IL2 is "hooking" the minimize to allowing the ffb to drop, its been a problem for years since I got IL2.

X-52 here. Windows key just pulls me out of the game to desktop/minimizes open windows.

Go back in & all is normal.

The problem is likely that IL2 was never intended to support task switching. On some machine/driver combinations it performs faultlessly. For other combinations some or all interfaces with controllers/keyboard/mouse/vid card/sound card will drop out or lock up. FFB is one of the most likely to drop.

There are probably driver configurations that run your desk top, that are different than what run some of the joystick processes in the game.
When you start the game from the beginning or through a profiler, everything links together as it should.

When you task out, alt+tab, (however you do it), the desktops drivers/processes take over, I'm speculating (if it goes to desktop...or whatever program its set to), so that when you dive back into your game, those lost processes that ran your joystick, are now regular windows processes.

This might also explain why this happens to some, but not all of your settings.

Sometimes i see stuff like this in reverse, where the game causes changes to my desktop settings, display drivers, and/or mouse settings that weren't there before i started the game.

Lol ....Forgive me if i sound like i know what i'm talking about. I'm only trying to make sense of the information i've been presented....lol

I could be way off base....but that's where i'd start to look.

I am using a Logitech Force 3d Pro joystick (drivers: 5.02.116 (4/4/2008) ) and i have the same problem. Once I Alt+TAB or Win+D i loose feeling of the "stiffness" of the joystick spring and FFB. Also, i believe i loose joystick settings in the game, because it starts responding to spasmodically.. I believe we would all love to see that bug fixed!
