Never got round to playing Fallout 3. Fun game if a little dated feeling. Very Mad Maxesque. I'm not very far into the game, in the early parts of the map which are kind of sparse.
The Good
Interesting storyline, reviews are very polarized. Some think it's a brilliant storyline others think it's less involving than Fallout 3.
Fantastic landscapes and I love the combat system.
LOTS of weapons. Gimme gimme gimme and you can customize them. I currently have a 5.56 varmint rifle which I have attached a night vision scope and silencer to, I used it to sneak into a Raider base and cleared the whole place out one by one in the dead of night. Had I gone in all guns blazing I'd have been dead within seconds.
Deep, die hard role-playing mechanics. No dumbing down for the masses here. Lots of ways to customize your characters abilities.
Hardcore mode means that you have to hunt, drink, sleep and see doctors for injuries otherwise you die, the game suddenly becomes a very hard and interesting survival game.
The Bad
Feels a bit to much like a western at the moment, I was hoping for a slightly more futuristic post apocalyptic world.
Clunky interface. Worse than the other Bethesda games I have played such as Morrowind and Oblivion. It feels like an old school PC game and it's not as well polished as the games we have come to expect from compaies such as Rock Star. (Red Dead Redeption)
2008 graphics.
Poor animations.
Idiot AI.
I just got it earlier tonight for pc. It runs kind of crappy, hopefully they patch it up soon. I haven't really played very much of it so far but it's a lot like FO3 though feels a bit tougher so far.
FO3 is definitely worth playing, you can get it for pretty cheap now. Definitely has the post-apocalyptic thing you might be looking for, it's pretty eerie wandering around a destroyed Washington DC seeing a ruined Capitol Building and so on.
I'm a huge Fallout III fan and I'll be getting Vegas no matter what. It actually sounds a lot like Fallout III. They will probably have expansions for purchase later on.
The PC version of Fallout III can be modded to no end for free. You will need all of the expansion packs for some of these mods but it's well worth it if you are still holding out for Vegas. It made Fallout III a whole new game for me. Get the mods at the Fallout III Nexus. If you need help with installing just ask.
20th Century Weapons Mod: More guns than you will ever be able to use. Just a tiny sample shown here.

I have no idea how old you are... I'm assuming 19ish, so your sacrilege can be forgiven.Originally posted by Aimail101:

Fallout (and I mean the real Fallout games made by Black Isle, not the shadow of its former self put out by Bethesda) are post-apocalyptic parodies of 1950s Americana.
So they tend to go heavy on the Western elements and the entire point is that they are retro-futuristic in that they're depictions of the future as viewed through the lens of the '50s.
Bethesda has stuck to this formula... though admittedly hasn't pulled it off as well as Black Isle.
I have to disagree with that. F3 and NV have been extremely sanitized when compared to the earlier games in the series. Of course, these are politically correct times... and many of the options allowed in earlier Fallouts would cause entire governments to collapse as they attempt to ban the game today.Deep, die hard role-playing mechanics. No dumbing down for the masses here.
I've also picked up NV. I haven't played it much. I want to believe that it will be good because Obsidian developed it, but... it's really hard to me to be optimistic about it. Fallout and Fallout 2 are two of the best games ever made.
Fallout 3 was basically a mediocre first-person shooter that didn't hold a candle to the originals. I found it pretty unplayable until the mods started coming out.
I bought NV in the hopes that Obsidian might be able to recapture the classic Fallout feel.
Heey folks!
I'm a huge fan of TES:IV Oblivion and Fallout 3 + expansions and I'm enjoing New Vegas so far
I mean, what's not to love, they finally got the best FO3 mods and implemented those on NV
like true Ironsights and moddable weapons and this time the G.E.C.K. came out fast!
I just wished they've bought the APB character generator
My wife's been a longtime fan of this series. She picked up New Vegas last week and I'll hear her cursing every once in a while when she's playing it.
I really like the 50's 'pockyclypse' concept of the game, but I'm not interested in playing it because there's too much involved to finish the game. I'm more of a FPS type player where there is a relatively short scenario to accomplish without a lot of sidetracking involved in order to finish the game. One of the things that amazed my wife was that when playing one of the Fallout 3 games, she said that at some point she was 'invited' to a wedding scheduled (a few days?) later by some of the NPCs. Curious, she went back to where the wedding was to be held, and sure enough, at the appointed time NPCs starting coming in for the wedding. That's too much for me. Again, I'd rather play a relatively simple game of 'point the weapon towards the ememy, and get them before they get you'.![]()
Where do you get a Varmint Rifle scope or silencer? I've checked all the merchants I've seen so far but haven't found one though I got the extended mag for it. Right now I'm in Novac.
Well I've been playing for a few more hours today. I dunno how I feel about it yet. All the missions so far seem like kind of a "go here and check on this then come back and see me" kind of thing with a few minor firefights here and there, interspersed with large groups of ghouls/mutants/scorpions that can only be fought if you basically just run backwards endlessly away from them while firing, it gets a little repetitive. And now I'm on a fetch quest for some ghouls.
I liked the early missions in FO3, like the one where you have to go through a long cave full of giant ants to help an abandoned kid. That one was really intense.
The game just really runs badly, I've tweaked the settings a bit to get it to run smoother but I just ran into a bunch of mutants who can use stealth and any time they'd be on screen they'd cause massive framerate stuttering that made it very annoying to fight them, and it would get buggy and prevent me from firing my gun or reloading or switching to a different weapon. Not very good when a giant mutant is charging at me with a flamethrower.
Hopefully the game gets better, so far it's just kinda eh for me and the poor performance makes it kind of annoying to play.
