While poking around the net for some P38 related items, I came across this slideshow. The skill of these guys as builders/pilots blows me away. Too many aviation hobbies, too little time. I read somewhere that the X15 actually drop/launches like the real one did. The Razorback on final still grabs me the most.

In Holland, we have an organization called "Phantasy in blue". It is funded by the Dutch Airforce (RNLAF or KLu) The goal of this organization is to build a flying 1:5 replica of EVERY aircraft that ever flew in our airforce. You can do a google search for them or, visit these websites:

Thnaks for the link. Nice camera work too. I often dream of doing this but I hear the wife in the backgound saying (complaining) of the cost. Did you notice the size of them. One of the last photos of a biplane had a person in the background. That plane must of had a 6 foot + wingspan. Oh the cost of those must be outrageious. I know for sure the little jets can cost up to and around 10,000 US and you have to go to school to fly it.

Beautiful models and photos. I never could get the hang of R/C flying. I found it harder than flying full size real a/c! But I loved the building process. My pride and joy being a 1/4 scale Howard DGA3 "Mike", but I'll never let it fly! BTW it's an X-1 (the X-15 was the Stilleto)that drops from the B-29 and there are photos that show it in flight.

I wouldn't join any club that would have ME as member!

Yep, you are so right about the X1. I knew it was too late to be posting.


You brought up an interesting point. Once the many hours of sweat are complete, how does a guy send his pride/investment up for that first flight?

Yes, I dabbled one summer with a cheapo trainer and it is much different than actual flight. I actually did ok and was flying solo the first day. I had practiced using an old flight sim, "A10 CUBA!" that would allow you to fly the plane from a tower view and this prepared me for those odd transitions of turning and flying directly at yourself.

Think I didn't keep after it because I couldn't graduate up to a fighter soon enough. Or was it the enormous expense?
