1.There are rumours abound that the original DevTeam responsible for SHIII have disbanded..this may be so. BUT I would like to tell you all here that support for the game will still continue from Ubi.

2.These forums will still tick over as normal.

3.There are also rumours abound that a new SH simulation is under construction..this may also be so...with a new Devteam perhaps.

Another Silent Hunter game in my honest opinion and based on common sense would be a remake of the original SHI if one was to be made. The franchise would then have turned full circle with 2 games dedicated to USN vs IJN and 2 games dedicated to Kriegsmarine-Unterseebootwaffen Vs Allies.

These two Naval services ie USN and German were originaly selected because of the variety they offered either in submarine technology or vast areas of patrol and their great significant in WWII.
This gave the gamer in campagn mode a lot of choice, entertainment and sense of "being there and doing somehting" that effected the war as it did in realality.
A Japanese submarine orientated game would not deliver the same aspects of playability due to the "historically accurate" fact that they were weak and ineffectual and never made any impression on the state of the war in the Pacific. The SH franchise has always been based on historical accuracy and realism because as a simulation thats what the gamer wants.
So to simulate Japanese subs in all their flawed ability to do anything in WWII does not fit in with the genre of what is expected with a sim.

The Silent Hunter game as is, is not realy a big seller when compared to other games as it is more specialised and only suits a certain area of the gaming market. SH sells about 30,000 - 50,000 units worlwide whereas other games sell about 300,000 to 500,000 worldwide.

Would you gamble on an even lesser premis as SH IV Japanese sub game...I think not.

This post remains open for your comments on the future of the SH and you are invited to post.

Any idea when SH4 will be release? I don't really care which side I play on.

They can even be based on the African navy and I don't care. I just want the game.

    -------------------------------
I think SH4 is still in the 'rumours only stage' as I dont think anything is set in stone...any comments ! RT

I'm glad to see that the Search facility is now working again. Why was it disabled?

I'd rather see a commercial expansion pack to SH3 (of the IL-2 variety) that:

Fixes all the bugs (seeing as another patch ain't gonna happen)

Adds the most popular missing features that people have repeatedly discussed on these forums (e.g. wolfpacks, different mission types, historical events etc etc)

Adds a USN vs IJN Pacific campaign, using the same game/graphics engine as SH3 but obviously with new models, equipment, sound effects etc plus all the above fixes and relevant additions. When you start a new career you have the option to be a USN or Kriegsmarine captain.[/list]
I don't see the point of developing a whole new game when there is so much right about SH3, including the graphics. We just need more gameplay variety and features.

Has anyone else noticed that the team who made SH3 were Romanian? Romania was a staunch ally of Germany during WW2 and so maybe they made this game with a sort of "insider knowledge" shall we say.
With SH4 probably being a Japanese-USN simulation why would they keep a Romanian development team? Why not use Americans? They'd have more access to research and first-hand knowledge. Is that maybe what they were planning when they disbanded the SH3 team?

It may be that it is impossible to get higher sales figures, that those other potential customer simply don't exist, cause they are playing .... well ... say .... FPS or sports games.

The simmers are the simmers, no more no less. If one could bring over some FPS guys to this sim by offering them the ability to serve as gunner on the battle ships, and you don't need to wait but get thrown from campaign planning map like in Rome Total War and right into when the attack begins.

As a FPS guy you could play the old game "Incoming" and shoot at incoming zeroes. This would be similar to the B17 game.

How do you get more people to buy SH and where are they to be found?

But PLEASE, make sure the audio is OK, or that you can download the correct sounds later, just so that the game get passed inspection and is allowed to be sold, then you can download the right sounds that somehow happens to be online for you to blow your brain out.

    realistic audio is important.

A quicker higher paced simpler gaming mode. Rome total war does it pretty well.

For a person to be on a devteam or for the devteam to exist the must be a job that have to be done. If there isn't, you either become unemployed or reorganized. The money needs to be flowing.

Maybe they could go the Heroes of the Pacific route. Its not quite a sim like IL2 series, but gets good reviews as a game. The focus is on action, not necessarily EXACT HISTORICAL REALITY, you know EVERYTHING just like it was. Frankly, like the man said theyve been making WW2 games longer than WW2 lasted. How much longer can this go on, without making the game funner to play? (Dunno myself rhetorical question)

I participate in the Far Cry, R6 series, SH3, Splinter Cell series, Pacific Fighters, Ghost Recon., and RSE forums. Why? Becuase I own all these games, the biggest advice I can give Ubi is to actually particpate on their own forums, and stay connect to the fan base. Instead of "rumors and rumors of rumors" taking hold as fact. These ARE YOUR FORUMS, Why dont you take ownership and LEAD from the FRONT?

BTW its not uncommon for people to switch jobs frequently for whatever reason these days. Hate Mngmt, family, money, burn out etc.

LOL last PS. If you went the Pacific route for SH4 it would get really slim pickin's as they say here later in the War for the US. It would be fun to sneak a sub into Pearl Harbor right before the attack(might be heck on the Frame Rate though LOL), plus there were plenty of times in the later stages of the War to find MAMMOTH(sp) Allied Convoys to shoot at. I.E. Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Saipan, Guam and wherever else.

Sorry if I come off harsh not trying too.

Not entirely true. Those figures fits with the American sales after two months. That is not exactly stellar but double that for the same period in the rest of the world, and another time for the bought copies from then until now. Then it is fair enough I think.

Still not a big seller, but not a bottomscraper.

I'm a little surprised that this thread needs bumping - i.e. so few responses.

Maybe there hasn't been much interest because the thread needs a better name... RedTerex - why not change the title to something like "SH4 Rumours - what do you think?" or "What do you want from SH4?".

"REF: Silent Hunter" sounds a bit vague/dull.

Dull !..theres nothing dull about SH3 !
