Obama officially announces the end to Bush's war.

Hopefully the government has learned something from its mistakes.

About time, indeed. We had absolutely no business invading Iraq in the first place.

Glad this phase is finally over.

As am I, but unfortunately it's too late for those that have already lost their lives. It would have been better had it happened far sooner.

Now we get to watch Iraq plummet deeper than the bottom.

I give it five years before another military dictator take over Iraq in a coup.

btw didn't bush say this war would "pay for itself" through oil revenues we would receive after the war?

We should have a vote on how long it'll take Iraq to become another pre-Bush Afghanistan.

It's a double edged sword. There's no way other than nukes for the US to have won the war. But there's also no way to stay and fix things either.

Sadly, that is precisely what is going to happen. All those lives (and all of that money) will have been lost in vain.

Saddam Hussein was an evil man, but the simple fact of the matter is that the region is not ready for a western-style republican government. He may have been an autocratic dictator, but he managed to create a stable, non-theocratic state with a relatively high standard of living for the region. He was a necessary evil and wasn't our problem to "fix."

Only when Iraq completely implodes will the extent of our folly be apparent. I pity those people, and the hatred that they will have towards us will be justified. I also pity our government, which apparently learned nothing in Vietnam and seems hell-bent on repeating the same mistakes no matter how many lives they cost.

About the only good thing to come out of this war is that it has done a pretty good job of discrediting one of the cornerstones of the whole neo-conservative philosophy.

What about the troop still there? Its not over just the combat phase of it is over. Now those still over there will get to talk about how easy they had it before the war was over. Now they dont get to shoot back and get to sit in holes hoping they make it through this attack as they wait for the Iraqi soldiers to repeal the attack.

Its not Over and if you think it is then you need to get a grip on reality.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this.

Cutting the Iraqis loose and expecting them to clean up the mess we've made... Sound familiar? It should to any student of history.

And I don't think it's going to end any better this time than it did last time.

The war is over. With that many soldiers and so much equipment withdrawn from the theatre, I don't think anybody can argue that point (unless they don't have a grip on reality.) There is no longer a capacity to wage war in the area.

It's only a matter of time before the "advisors" are withdrawn as well.
