S! all. I was shocked when I woke up and checked the game update link. 4.02m I thought to myself All right!. I downloaded it then reason kicked in. I better go get my external hard drive for the "patch test". Well, in my simple test, 4.02m has the screenie saying 4.02.
I don't want to start a flame fest of I told you that the installers were (mis named or corrupted) This is just a caution to those who might run into trouble. So now matter who's fault it is. Please wait till Some one with Authority or Officially states somthing. Good bad or Ugly.

If you have a computer with a Pentium 4 processor, you may occasionally encounter game lock-ups or crashes to desktop. In order to solve that, copy your il2_core.dll into the il2_corep4.dll (for example, with the following command: "copy il2_core.dll il2_corep4.dll"; or, in Windows Explorer, navigate to your sim installation directory, delete the existing il2_corep4.dll, make a copy of the il2_core.dll, and rename the copy to il2_corep4.dll)

Wow! I hope that someone with more CPU knowlege can explain this one to the community.Mabey like a Public sevice announcement.

    Names mismatched.

    Patch around 30 MB = 4.02m
    Patch around 26 MB = 4.02

If the latter has been installed instead of the former, need only to install the correct one over.
If the former has been installed instead of the latter, need to install the correct one and delete (either before or after the correct installation, doesn't matter) a few files:

    fb_3do12.SFS
    fb_maps11.SFS
    Tempest skin folder (in "\PaintSchemes\Skins")

Bit of educated guess here, but this appears to be either a compile of the core engine using either Microsoft's Processor Pack for optimization or perhaps Intel's compiler for optimized P4 operations.

My guess is that since not all P4s are created equal some of these optimizations may not work well on some hardware platforms. So, it looks like you are replacing the optimized P4 specific dll with the more generic one. P4 users might see a very minor dip in performance, but get increased stability.

The names now correspond with the correct d/l on the UBI.com servers.

There is no reason to avoid the updates page at this time.
