I don't know if this topic was already discussed, but what do you find out more enjoyable?

I personaly hate moderm sub sims, I bought Sub Command long ago and I must say that it's case is full of dust. I found it just TOOooOOooOOoo boring!

I mean, the gameplay and tatics on moderm subs just are s.u.c.k.i.h.g boring:

1 - I can't do nothing about an incoming homing torp! Plus, what's the fun of pressing a button and firing homing torps? Where's the skill on it?

2 - You don't see the enemies, only some small triangles designated as sierra 1, 2, 3 on sonar screen, please...

3 - Because you fire torps beyond visual contact the periscope it's almost useless...

4 - It lacks on strategic poinst while submerged, like limited baterries, air etc...

I know that moderm sub sims are more complexier and have other strategic points, but to me, playing one, is as much enjoyable as making home work back on school ages...

So I guess I vote for WWII sub sims

I too have Sub Command gathering dust.

You can't beat getting the hell knocked out of you by depth charges.

Never played a modern one but i would love to give one a go if there were any good ones. I bought Red Storm rising a lot of years ago for my Commodore 64 or amiga, i forget which. But it would never load lmao. I think it was C64 caus it was on tape, it looked wicked but i will never know.

You have a lot more to do in modern sub sims, i mean your view is very simplified. In red storm there were special forces deployments, search missions. Hunter killer missions. Nuke deployment ect. I think they have the potential to be possibly the most exciting of any game.

Imagine being tasked with getting off the coast of Russia on your own, with Hunter killer subs and ships after you. Knowing you are the hope of the world in getting the first strike! Also for the people who wanted to win a war on their own these ships really do have that potential. (modern subs that is)

Well, what would be truly exciting would be a trip to moon

All in all, it's a matter of personal taste, I found out a Good RPG much more amusing then any other game (this includes sub sims), like Gothic II and Fallout 2.

Gothic II was the most recent game which truly addicted me like games used to addict me in pass. All games I see now, are just 5-hour-game (except Half Life 2), like the recent "Pirates!"... Well Rome Total War kept me busy for almost 2 days, impressive!

But Doom 3 owns my timeplay record... I only managed to play it for 27m before I uninstall it.

I played for too long. Games now to addict me must be REALLY GOOD! This is what I am hoping of Silent Hunter III... Yeah am an Hardcore gamer and played all the classics on my Amiga

Personaly,i think any sim after WW11 is boring, all the grit and skill has gone, its a case of if your seen your dead, and of course making a kill is a case of pressing a button!
It would be nice to see some more sim's based around WW1 though.

Doom was doomed long time before it hit the shelves. In my machine it lasted 1.5 hours then I found no interest in chasing the monsters trough endless narrow corridors.
I guess the game only suits "narrow" minded people!

Interestingly enough I actually recently installed the origional Doom and played it through. I'm amazed by how good it still is and find it impressive they could have lighting effects that good back then. Good way to till time until SH3.

Just for instance, how old are you?
I mean, from what I realise, only young ppl tend to like doom3
