    As for High Dynamic Range...

It's used more and more often in shooters as Half Life 2, Ghost Recon, Armed Assault apaprently, and in most ones to come. In a flight simulation would be fantastic to simulate the blinding effects of the sun, and the tactical use and effect thereof. A whole new (realistic) way to fly and engage in fight. Any speculation, (semi)official word on the matter?

I would expect something like this - Oleg said BoB will be photorealistic in some quite early post.

    Expect it to be.

And again, hopefully we'll see next week on L.A.s E3

HDR is nice, but if it's done properly the textures will be huge (16 bit per channel!). Most games that pretend having it don't really use true HDR, they just do some HDR-looking effects (like bloom).

In my ideal priority list I would put quite a few other things ahead of HDR, like self-casting shadows, specular maps, or even normal maps. First things first

HDR is not very usefull for a flight sim. There is not very bright areas at siem time when there are very dark areas. Alsmot no use for HDR.

But a good bloom effect is a very nice addition.

OldMan, in GRAW HDR is used to simulate the lighting and the dusty air. Considering light and visibility is a major factor in a flightsim, this might very well be usefull in BoB.

If I am not mistaken, BoB is to be programed with "The Future" taken into consideration. I think I read somewhere that Oleg would try to make the Core of BoB perform good for at least 5 years, so I believe a lot of features similar to HDR will be available. However, it is only guessings

what about bomber gunners, or in search lights eh? or coming round after a blackout.

imagine trying to corkscrew a lanc over berlin while coned by searchlights, heavy flak bursting around u, while u struggle to see and control with no references, and being deafened by 4 merlins.

involvement of as yet under developement hardware and processors lead me to be very thankfull for these Fb/PF addons and the GT's upcoming WWI mod....

BoB might be way too rich for my PC for quite a while...in fact - the more speculation there is, the more resolved I am to wait, possibly more than a year after its release, to buy a new rig.

It seems obvious that merely upgrading this one will not be enough by a long stretch...and this rig has alot of upgrade room.

Ofcourse I will buy it and try it right away...but it looks like it will need a rather large investment even to play properly....here we go again.

    Original il2 release? slideshow.
upgrade the rig - playable, but not full candy.
FB release?...hmmm...AEP release? Whole New Rig. PF release? upgrade vid card and add a gig of ram....

I plan to sit tight now thru the three addons and the WWI mod...lets face it...there is no more $$$ in the budget for a new PC...got to keep up with gas prices.

If some of you guys can afford to constantly upgrade or buy new rigs then good on ya...but for me? these other projects are golden.

People have a wrong idea about HDR. HDR is not about being blinded by light!!! Is about a workaround to avoid the limitation of only 255 levels of ilumination thet 32 bit color have. This makes possible to have darker dark zones and lighter light zones by an ilusion effect.

Nothing related to sun blinding or sarch lights etc....

Also HDR creates an ilumination that is fake and some people will not feel confortable with it ( I am one that cannot endure HDR on on any game.. it gets UGLY!!!). If you stop to annalyse a game with HDR on (liek oblivion) you will see that it seems that ilumination changes without good reason (is just a slip in the lighting window)

    Bloom would be far better.
