hmm.. I also got it stuck more by changing graphic settings from display driver settings also lowering resolution affected it.
You could also try setting;
NO_OPTIMISATION_SOUND_CARDS=TRUE
I tried to set SMOOTHVISION HD: Anisotropic Filtering from Cat. Control center to 16x that's when my game got stuck, not sure if it's connected, also try disabling adative anti-aliasing or Catalyst A.I from control center if you are using ATI graphics card.
btw my game looks like this (ugly) in certain areas when characters are glowing.

Guys im playing prince of persia, well trying to and whatever i do nothing seems to make it lead the first map i even left it on 24 hours with vsync on and every thing mikku told me. I need help guys the white circle is spinnign but i dont think its loading can some1 plz hlep me i realy like the game and u know stores wont allow returning pc games so some1 plz help me ubisoft....people any1 plzzzzz.
I installed on windows vista 7.
Start->Games.... menu item for the game does nothing when clicked.
Went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Prince of Persia
Tried
Prince of Persia.exe
PrinceOfPersia_Launcher.exe
Load screen hangs.
Set both to vista compatability mode ... still hangs.
Went to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Prince of Persia\Launcher
and ran Launcher.exe
I went to settings and chose native screen resolution.
The other defaults for my system was high quality but no AA. Vsync was off.
That sounded ok for a start.
The loading screen no longer hangs.
In the first few areas, the tutorials liked to hang.
The tutorials wait until you press the button they want you to press -- but it seems it misses some presses and then continues to ignore any release or press. This seemed to happen on the right mouse button.
Go to the display options in game and turn off tutorials. Then be ready to block. Turn them back on if you like.
I healed a few areas -- everthing seems fine other than things like is he going to jump along the wall or away from it and the fighting will take some getting use to.
Now I can run
Prince of Persia.exe
Maybe later I will turn off the compatability mode and see if anything goes wrong.
Same here with Windows 7 x64.Start->Games.... menu item for the game does nothing when clicked.
Could launch the game without any problems with Luancher.exe.
Didn't even bother with compatibility mode, it runs fine like that.
Only problem i saw, was that the right mouse button didn't do anything in the tutorial in the first fight.
Didn't bother to test more...
Nice one jfund. I have now run the game via the PrinceOfPersia_Launcher.exe as you stated and set my screen res and vsync ect there. Game runs great again and my character details are once again back to normal as i am now able to change DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=TRUE back to =False.
Thanks for pointing out this fix.
right click an exe, select properties, goto the compatability tab.
The exe with that full pathname will be run with the compabability mode chosen. It appears the exe is not touched. Mmm, registry. For CD/DVDs drives, it tries to keep different CD/DVDs separate but I always try to remember to turn it off after I use it there in case this mechanism is not reliable.
I havent noticed any game needing it, but I suppose some problems could not be readily apparent.
Funny I am running Windows Pro X64 bit and I just keep getting exceptions when trying to start the dang game. I've tried:
vsync : on and off
editing the DARE.ini file
played with compatibility launcher.exe, etc
Still the game just won't start...
I've also got an ATI x1950 graphics card
Any ideas besides making the case a paper weight?
