The spitfires in this game have a bad lod model, which makes it dificult to judge distance, direction and even detect them.

    Here's what I mean:

Look at these two pictures, they are taken from a track I recorded on a full real server on the North Africa map.

On the second picture I've moved the camera one pixel closer to my own aircraft which reveals the spitfire's wings.

Another example: on the first picture, which aircraft is closer?

Again, with the wings attached to the spit:

Here's an example how they can disapear against the ground because of the missing wings, admittedly the land texture on this map makes everything easier to spot but imagine on a map with darker ground texture.

That's nothing compared to Ju-88's LOD4. When it switches from 3 to it looks INCREDIBLE UGLY!

Ask Gibbage, he may know, he made the Spitfire models. (and a fantastic job he did too)

I used to have the '1 winged Spit' problem before I upgraded my drivers recently.

Which drivers were you/are you now using?

What version of the Spitfire? I did the Vb and IX. Another artist did the MkVIII. I think the problem is known on the MkVIII with wings vanishing, but not in the IX or Vb. The VIII was modeled by a very talented 3D artist named Nyme. The IX and Vb are my own creation. The Seafire III is also Nyme's.

Nice post! I've raised this topic before. This problem should really be fixed!

On my end, both Seafire models fail to display wings at medium distance. All of the other models, the Vb’s, Vc’s, and Mk. Ix’s, are fine.

A similar problem had effected the Spitfire VIII, whereby just one of its wings would go missing. This is now fixed, but I don’t know if the fix was by virtue of one of the past few patches or if it was solved when I had upgraded my video drivers, around the time that the patches were released.

There’s also a different little graphic corruption in the left side of the cockpit framing:

The corruption, which has persisted since the models were first available, effects all of the Seafire and the Mk Vc models, but doesn’t occur in any the Mk Vb or Mk IX models.

    Cheers,

After checking, it's only the Seafire that has this problem.

Seafires lose both wings, Mk. VIII loses one wing (although an above poster says this is now fixed, I have yet to look for myself. not doubting, just like to witness with my own eyes). Mk Vc will always be missing the nose.

These are known LOD issues and in the case of the Vc a 3D modeling error, that have nothing to do with drivers or type of video card. The problem is, in order to fix it, they have to take apart and recompile the files.sfs file and it's been wrtten by Oleg that this will not happen for this series. I never say never though. We've gotten other surprises over the years.
