You'd be surprised by how long it takes for some people to be declared brain-dead after receiving traumatic brain injuries.Originally posted by Bo_Nidle:
Two 5.56mmNATO rounds at close range through the side of the head will do considerably more than knock you unconcious irrespective of where they exited. Hydrostatic shock does nasty things to fragile brain tissue.![]()
However I have no doubts anymore that he is as dead as a very dead thing!
Latest reports are saying that he was hiding behind his wife as he shot at the SEALs. Considering that he is 6'5", unless she is 6'6", that's a pretty poor attempt at a shield by any standards.
There are also reports of troops on the ground forming a perimeter around the compound prior to the arrival of the SEAL assault team.
Lots of unanswered questions at the moment. I'll aslo wait for the Hollywood movie version to come out to learn the real truth.![]()
Al Qaeda aren't going anywhere but the USA finally has an element of closure for 9/11.
You've never studied any form of medicine though as you're a police officer. Headshots are not some be all and end all. People have survived much worse injuries to the brain than 5.56 passing through part of the frontal lobe.
You want clean relatively quick kill? Then either a shot to the heart, shot to the brainstem or a shot to the c1-c3 vertebrae will do it.
Just to ram my point home, how often do you read journal articles on traumatic brain injuries for physiology exams? Try looking up what Phineas Cage survived (very elementary reading for any Biology/Anatomy/Biomed/Medical/Nursing/Physio student) Here's a starter.

I would have to say I agree with you on that, although I feel uncomfortable talking about it, I personally have seen the direct results of a head shot, in this case to the right temple, with the exit wound coming out the top-left area of the skull. The heart kept pumping blood until all of the blood was gone, so it seemed. It was a lot of blood. More than I thought possible.Originally posted by Aimail101:

I hope this topic has not brought back painful memories.
Yeah sadly all the people brought up on a diet of COD think that when you head shoot someone they just slump over and that's it. It isn't, it's actually a very violent way to go granted if you do hopefully you will be having a seizure and won't know much about it but there have been plenty of cases of intrusive brain injuries where the patient has been perfectly conscious the whole time![]()
I think this is what you are talking about, guy lost half of his skull. (squeamy) I'm done. Moving on now to helicopters.Originally posted by Aimail101:
Isn't there a Falklands war vet who got a third of his brain blown out or something and lived to tell the tale?

Hi all,
The West awaits AQ's response to Bin's killing.
Why?
AQ hate the West so much that if they had the capability they would have struck before Bin's death anyway.
It's not as if they had an attack agenda in place in case Bin was killed.
His death gives AQ no more capability than they had before his death.
The logical response from the West is....keep hunting AQ down.
Best Regards,
