That was the EOKA revolt in Cyprus - basically it was a war for Cypriot independence. My uncle got killed there - shot by a sniper while he was riding in a jeep.

one grandfather was in the merchant marine. he was on a number of ships (in the 5-6 range) that were torpedoed by u-boats and went down. we're good swimmers in my family. he doesnt talk about it much at all and i wouldnt dare mention this game to him. while i definitely enjoy the game, i'm really glad they didnt program men on the merchants for obvious reasons.
my other grandfather was stateside in r&d. he was an engineer working on the first guided missile system.

Concerning the sinking of the Hood, my Grand Mother (who served in the RAF during WW2) had several brothers, one of them died on the Hood.
Grand Dad was also RAF in Africa, met my GM through the RAF.
Other Grand Dad was British Artillery in Europe during WW2, he used to have countless highly polished shell casings sitting around the house (made into flower pots etc..)
Great Grand Father was cavalry during WW1, he was gassed with Mustard Gas but survived and had health problems the rest of his life.
Uncle was a Hussars in the Queens own Hussars (Armor)

My great uncle had the same thing. Gassed on the Somme, his lungs never recovered and he finally succumbed to the effects of the gas in the 1940s.

My great Uncle served as an officer on the HMS Hood, He transfered to the HMS Rodney shortly before the Hood was sunk. He was devistated to lose so many close friends on the Hood.
Later he lived in Scotland overlooking the dockyard where the HMS Rodney was scrapped after the war.
