Another good one is K-19
K-19 @ wikipedia
As far as WW II sub movies go, you just can't beat Run Silent Run Deep. The other mentioned such as Operation Pacific, Torpedo Run etc were great as well.Never sawe Hellcats of the Navy but will check it out, sounds good and Ronald Reagan was a decent actor and cerntainly looked the part, even though he described himself as "King of the B's"
Crimson Tide is my favorite non WW II sub movie.
As far as the comment that the Captain in Crimson Tide should have capped the XO , well that is not a great thing to say, actually it's wrong, think about it.I know it's just a movie but could happen in RL I suppose.Turns out the XO was correct and nuclear war was avoided because they confirmed before launch only after the XO took action.Possibly the most annoying one in that movie was a pre Tony Soprano James Gandolfini who played one of the Officers, really got under my skin for some reason.Hackman did a great job of portraying the arrogant SOB he was supposed to.
These are the ones that i have.
U571- great movie, but you need to take it with a grain of salt... im sure that the "nit pickers" could pull it apart, but its still enjoyable.
Below - Totally thought i was the only one who liked this sci-fi/horror movie set on a WWII sub... worth checking out.
Das Boot- seriously, if you havent seen it yet, you need to just buy it.
Victory at sea- Whole collection is worth watching because it puts the sub war in a context to the greater war at sea... a must own for any history buff.
K-19 is an interesting story, and good movie.
Crimson Tide and Hunt for the Red October - 2 more good, older movies.
The enemy below, run silent run deep are also 2 of my favorites
Murphy's War is a cool Sub film
