You might want to look into the 7950 GT or GTX it's one of the latest and greatest AGP cards.

I've heard this is a very good AGP card, maybe one of the last made for the AGP slot design.
There is also the 7800 series available, I have a 7800 GS OC and it runs very well at 1600x1200.
I believe he already made his purchase. I own the 7950GT 512 PCIx version and its a great value card. I did notice that the AGP version is a good bit more expensive then mine. exactly so Havok...
The monitor was planned, as it was time to move on from my old CRT which was falling apart (it took out revenge when it broke my back hehe), but as I said - I needed a temporary GFX solution (until I build me a new rig) with a card that have a decent FPS with the native resolution of the TFT. The 7600 was a very "economical" temporary solution with just enough boost to handle this
