Cowabunga checking in. NFI when I joined, but it goes back to Red Storm's Rainbow Six. Well met all!
Just refurbed a Win 7 pos into a little hot rod and am having issues loading the AEP. I get an installation error saying "IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles not found." I load games onto their own separate drive and I'm guessing the game is so old that it doesn't search for an install directory other than the default one.
Tried logging into the game's UBI.com for possible updates to FB but get an error that the client is incompatible with the server. Unless someone has a recommendation, guess I'll uninstall and reinstall to the default directory.
Cheers!
EDIT: found my old patch library ... will try those.
AEP installer used the registry entry for language on the original FB install to find the installation directory. If you bypass the autorun dialog and run setup.exe from the disk, the registry entry never gets created.Originally Posted by Cowabunga Go to original post
Unfortunately the forum search doesn't seem to search old threads prior to the last forum software update or I'd find one of the old ones that has instructions on how to create the registry entry manually. Without that, there are two options that I can suggest:
- If it will work on Win7, re-install FB from the autorun dialog instead of browsing the disk and running setup.exe. You can then run AEP install and it will find the FB folder.... OR
- Buy the IL2 1946 DVD from Amazon, it includes FB, AEP, PF and patches/expansion packs up to 4.07 as a single merged install for less than US$10
Edit: Just thought of a 3rd option if you have an old WinXP or Win98 computer sitting around and the first option above fails in the Win7 machine. Install FB and AEP on the old machine using the first option above then copy the install folder over to the new machine. AEP is the last patch that uses the registry entry to find the install, all later patches and add-ons allow you to manually navigate to the folder during the installation process making the game completely independent of any registry entries. Just be sure to run the IL2Setup.exe utility in the game folder to choose graphics/audio etc settings before running the installation on the new machine for the first time.
Started playing on Christmas 2002Stopped flying in 2006 when I got addicted to MMO. I just came back to tell you what great memories I have from this forum. This thread is bringing so many memories, I almost cannot believe it's been ten years. I still remember RBJ and the BROW. I still have my AEP and FB, though I never tried Pacific fighters and 1946.
P.S. I'm still a Wurgerwhiner!![]()
First joined way back in 2002 when playing/flying the original IL2.
Remember some great characters from the old Pilots Lounge, Heavy Delta, Badmouse, Angel of Mons, Ray Ban Jockey, Veverka, Gunner, Gunners Girl, Skychimp, CrazyIvan, Major Blood, SmokeJag etc, to name but a few. Some of the heated discussions would go on for days, great fun.
Hope the years have been kind to all![]()
