Do you guys remember what was your very first plane that you flew in IL-2?
I remember this... it was Yak-1B in QMB. I've selected flight of Yaks vs. flight of Stukas + Me-109s. And it was actually the sound that gave me "wow!" impression. Sound of Ju-87 formation passing by head-on...
I was impressed by graphics more when I found out about F2 key ~1/2 hour later...
Yes it was a good time. And this sim has become, for some of us, more than just a game.
Marry Xmas and happy new year to all.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
<hr class="ev_code_hr" /><pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">@ SoW: Battle of Britain coming November 2006 for PCs worldwide. Not!!!
Kuna/Dkoor, my first ride? Late 2001, early 2002 can't remember anymore. But it was a Me109-E4 in the first mission of a campaign, only flying circles above Berlin. No CH-throttle, no pedals, no trackir, no MSSWFF2 (got that a week later), only the Logitech Wingman 3D and keyboard for rudder.
Took quite a while from halfroll and down to really taking off
Fondest memory? Except from lurking in the original pilots lounge? The patch, that brought the F190A-8, the first online dogfight 2 years later and and and...
I remember my first flight with (the original) IL2, the P-39 vs. Stukas in bad weather. I couldn't control the P-39 for beans, lost the Stukas right after I saw them then found the ground.Instead of being disappointed I kept trying. I thought this sim was SOOO much better than EAW which I had been flying for over a year. Then I discoverd the IL-2. The armor attack and the airfield raid in the QMB and I was hooked. I kept flying around after I ran out of ammo on externals going "Wow!.....Wow!....Wow!"
But Boosh, my fondest memory is when you and the Proud Birds of North America accepted me into your squadron. I had hardly ever flown online and never with other humans. Thanks to you and the PBNA I learned much. You guys helped me get this game running smoothly and helped me sort out comms. And, you made the sim even more fun. And, thanks to PBNA, I met Quazi and we later formed the HellHounds. I owe you Boosh.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, your family and the PBNA.

Beebop, you're very welcome, and thank you for the fun times we had hosting coops! (Sorry about all that flak in the "Dawn at Sea mission) I still remember the times when TS would fool around with your microphone and make your voice boom like God's in The Ten Commandments
And Dux, yes, I'm still writing. I found my way into a creative writing course, finally, at college, so that should be some fun. I've veered off a bit from the aviation, but I started a creative writing forum branching off of the Harry Potter community. It's growing fast. I've got to get back into aviation writing, It was another great way to connect with this game and the community.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hmmm...memories...first would be initially trying out the demo after getting it off a mates PCPowerplay DVD, one of the Il-2 missions where you have to destroy German tanks on a beach. Took a bit to get into the air, and the plane was slow and sluggish. Nevertheless, with a load of VAP-250 I very happily roasted my colleagues.
My most memorable moment ever, one that'll stay with me for a long time, is one the same mission. I was in me Il-2 going parallel with the beach, bombing tanks, when my wingman suddenly shots "BREAK RIGHT!" Not an instant later, with practically no time to turn, my right wing was sheared off and in F2 I spied the victorious FW-190 flying away. I sort of just sat there for about 30 mins with my mouth open, thinking "Holy s*** this is insanely awesome".
And I was hooked ever sinceHowever I haven't been playing really at all this year, no time

Another good memory is drawing a 10 minute online turn-fight against an La-7 in a P-40E. I had sweat dripping off me by the end of it, I was very immersed and very proud of my (smelly) self.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

You can have no idea just how hostile aircraft can be until they come to your area...
Aircraft which strafe or bomb your positions should be regarded with suspicion, if not deep mistrust. Aircraft which bomb and strafe your position and wear a red circle should certainly be regarded with deep mistrust. In fact, the deeper the better. A six-foot-deep slit trench is an ideal place from which to mistrust them...
