So, here's a really simple question for the community. One thats needs to be asked but seems to be avoided.
There have been some really good mods come and go, Tacto, Ultraball etc and now OE is out.
So the question to NON modders is that why do you not play these Mods?
Is it frustrating to have to reboot FC?
Do they not interest you?
Is it the lack of Servers?
Is it the lack of players in them?
Doc claims over one thousand downloads for ProjectX, yet no one on the server. The non mod servers are just as busy as normal, so its not a lack of community players.
What is it that prevents you from clicking on that mod server with the thought "I'll play that now"
You constructive thoughts would be appreciated I'm sure, for any future mods coming out.
I know you asked for non modders, but if i may answer as a modder and a gamer.
There seems to me to be a critical mass issue with people playing MODS. People for both MODS and games seem to follow the thought of, the more people playing the more likely they are to play.
So, my thought is (and not the only thought but the main one) Is Critical Mass, of people playing a MOD.
I can't understand why anybody would want to play games
online. They are too slow. No storyline. No individuality.
And you are sitting there telling the clowns who you are,
where you are, and you are vulnerable to hacking. On top
of that, the sites will spam you to death with ads. It is
just a matter of time before the older players get
profiled as some kind of weirdos exerting a bad influence
on the "under-age" players. That is your business if you
want to expose yourself to that, but it *is* happening.
Why be a sucker?

Well said clivey i wish i knew the answer myself because i run dark angel servers and i ran a project x server with no response it seems like some people dont want to play any other variation to game play except normal farcry well thats how it seems.Or cant they find were to download the mods from?.Well all i can say is i have every game type mod and map/pack you can get.and i still cant play because the lack off others not downloading/playing with mods its sad to think that the modders and mappers take there time doing these things and hardly anyone downloads them to play them well thats my opinion.![]()
The problem with mods, is people play them and their first impression puts them off,and go back playing stock FC.Take OE when i first played this my first thought was WTF is this "its to dark" "its to slow" "i don't like the new weapons", but i kept coming back playing it a little and now its all i playapart from clanbase matches lol.
People don't give it enough time to get used to these new mods. These guys that are putting their own time into the game, modding and trying to make the game fresh, get my upmost respect
I think some people are to scared to try something new, in case they become a noob in the game againand lose face. Some people feel safe playing stock FC
.
I think one thing that puts people off of downloading mappacks is the size of them. Why not just have ASSAULT mappacks and FFA mappacks, this way it would bring down the size of them and maybe more people would download which they like.
So what i'm trying to say is "us non modding players" should try out these new things more, because at the end of the day these guys are trying to keep FARCRY going and not let it die.
Anyway enough said from me for now, i've got to go and kill those BSR guys some more
KZ
good question Clivey - I personally expected the mp mod scene to explode when ultraball..,tacto..jp demo? came out.. But it just didn't seem to catch on.
I keeped playing ultraball, but as the weeks went on less and less people turned up - just not a fun game with 3 people on 1 map.
Now OE is released i'm trying to support it as much as possible but again players are trickling on and off... I thought there would be people fighting over packed servers once everyone got goign with it... as soroc said though..it's only been 10 days and way too early to forsee the future.
I have checked the projx server every night since i've installed it and i've never seen a soul in any of the 2 servers.. ???? What can you do?.. ive even idled in there for up to an hour.. nobody came in.
Apart from the huge daily problems with CD-keys...punkbuster kicking and people worried about hackers - I don't understand this either.
I actually had thought it was just my installation/internet/comp that wasnt showing popular servers.. or something.. no idea!
I think all the above reasons are true. I for one had never patched a game till I bought FarCry, having come from consols where patches don't exist, games just continue to suck forever. Then Ionized TAW was telling folks about Tacto in a server, so I downloaded it and tried it out. Thought it was cool to have a new and different game for free. But not many played and there was too much sci-fi in the mod. Then I signed up to beta test Obsidian Edge, and never went back to FarCry. I droped in sometimes to see if old friends were on, but once you try OE a few times and get used to it, it is actually really weird to go back to FarCry (probably the same for other mods too). I also think the size of a mod download can scare some folks. I mean almost 500mb is big to download. But look how many people download demos like F.E.A.R., and even FarCry demo, both of which were over 500mb.
@KingZac--------we are waiting for you!!!!!!!!!
