It's taken me awhile to find a relevent question worthy of all you knowledgeable kaleuns, but here it is:

Which U-boat was taken by surprise, while submerged, and depth-charged to the surface to be sunk by gunfire, mainly because the crew were having a party to celebrate a recent success? The hydrophone operator was busy washing-up champagne glasses and not at his station!

Nice one MOttie! I suppose more than a few of us have lost boats after a couple of, ahem, beverages

I'll give you a clue and reveal the answer either later tonight or tomorrow morning (GMT+1).

The boat was lost in action against convoy HX 228.

OK, gotta hit the sack now, up early tomorrow.

It was U-432. Answer can be found on page 4, chapter IV, paragraph 4.

Q: what is the connection between the actress Julie Andrews and a WW1 U-boat ace?

    Kielhauler -
With Julie Andrews in the question, I would guess that the answer would lie in the movie industry. I seem to remember that in my daughter's once-favorite movie, "The Sound of Music", the father was a stern military man. A WW1 u-boat ace perhaps? If so, wouldn't it be wild if his sub had edelweiss as it's emblem?

    @ MartiniMik:

Correct! The Sound of Music is the connection. George Ludwig von Trapp was an Austrian U-Boay ace in WW1. Here is his wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Ludwig_von_Trapp

    Over to you...

An easy one and one of my favorite stories - What dangerous and ultimately humorous thing occurred regarding U-35 and a well-known u-boat man?

Hmmm...checked in and there's no takers so far. Perhaps a hint is in order?

The "well-known u-boat man" always spelled his first name backwards but no one ever noticed!
