I'm looking for the alarm sound from AOTD:
"Alarm! Alle mann voraus! Schneller, schneller!!"

Anyone know if I can download it somewhere?
Or perhaps there is a sound file that is equally chaotic and cool?

Well, if you can do a good german accent, you could record your own voice (do it yourself. Personally, I would do it when everyone else is out of the house though.

Is there any danger in crash diving, i.e. being heard or spotted by the other ship as a result of the alarm, or by the wake that flank speed may produce?

Its schnelle not schneller, the R sound you hear is a mistake common to those who dont speak german, its like saying Fella but schnelle, the E at the end of any word is pronounced as an A sound. I speak german and thought to pass on some knowledge to you so you know in the future if you decide to take up the language.

I always thought of it as the comparative form of schnell. I.e: Faster! Doesn't that make sense?

@stinkhammer6: That depends on which region you're talking about. Alone here in Austria you can hear at least four or five different versions of "schneller" and I assume there are even more in Germany. Correctly spoken, you would speak out the "er" at the end. "Schnella" is a demotic form.

Stinkhammer6, I'm not sure how well you actually speak German, but before passing on too much more of your wisdom, you should maybe consider checking up on some of the basic pronunciation rules for German. The "er" sound, while not identical to the retroflexive "r" used in American english or the schwa common to RP English, is produced in German differently from one region to another. For Hochdeutsch, the proper pronunciation is to use what is called a reduction vowel, but if you happen to come from Friesland for example, you would likely say "schnella" (this unfortunately is only an approximation since the forum doesn't support IPA transcript) but there is not a Thuringian on the planet that would use that pronunciation. Still, none of this changes the way a word is written!

Koma77 wrote "schneller" That is the correct spelling...period. He is also absolutely right regarding it being the comparative form. I'm not sure why you are attempting to correct the pronunciation of WRITTEN German, but don't, because "schnelle" is the positive form of the adjective "schnell" with the appropriate weak adjective ending. Since you speak German, I'm assuming you know what I mean by this.

    Its schnelle not schneller,
I fear youre wrong at this point.

    Its really "schneller" .

The word "schnelle" also exists but makes no grammatical sense in this phrase.

I agree that our german language has many complex dialects but for my part i dont know one which uses schnelle.
Please correct me if i am wrong.

For me , the hardest german dialect is the swiss german or (Schwitzerdütsch) how they call it. I had really problems to understand someone when i was on vacation there.

I had to ask everybody to speak more slowly for me. Strange thing is that they hadnt problems understanding my berlin dialect or generally "hochdeutsch" .

Its sometimes hard to believe that its actually the same language.

    You are not alone.
But then again Schwitzerdütsche is not entirely a German dialect, but has enough foreign words and words of their own kind to actually become a seperate language. Add to that that they reform German to their own liking, so that "Keine ahnung" becomes "Kreyani" (spelled in English here). Now how is a normal person with 5 years of German in school ever going to understand that.
