Bravo all for putting together such a good guide. I just finished reading all 10 pages and even after asking questions I found out some stuff that I didn't know lol. I guess it just shows how much you can learn...

I REALLY think that this should be stickied (If it is stickied I sure can't find it) to make it more accessible by new skippers (like myself)
Until then I think that this should be kept current to help like it was designed to do.

First you go up to the sticky above called - Useful Links & Information. click that.

Then go to -

Tips, Mods, Tools, 100K Club, Online Squadrons, 'Adopt A Boat' + other SH4 info... click that.

Then you will see the 2nd listing is the SHIV Guide.

hi! i recently bought the retail dvd version of sh4...installed on a winxp pc and patched it thru v1.4...did everything as suggested in MSCONFIG also...updated the directx to the latest thru ms official website...updated the latest graphic drivers from nvidia geforce8400s website...still the game is sluggish...i can notice the mouse pointer's motion/trail affected which is visible clearly...any help to solve this...also i am just blind as to how to start playing the game in a pc alone...where do i start...is there any tips/hints available among you all so that i have an idea and then i can catch up on this....i know it is too late in 2011 wherein you all are veterans in this game since 2008....i would appreciate your helps in any way....i am from india..."(later I shall worry about the multiplayer option)"...

I think you have to patch up to 1.5 in order to install TMO and other community patches.

To begin, do the submarine school tutorial, set your settings to easy and do some patrols. There is good stuff on torpedo firing solutions on this forum also.
