To begin with, the eardrums of the unlucky person would instantly pop. A shockwave would be emitted from the sonar dome, and the cause of death would probably be blunt force trauma with whatever that brings (lacerations in organs and blood vessels, unconsciousness). Perhaps equal to falling from a height.

If you read the latest installment of the Altmeier saga you'll see that I do use it as an adjunct to visual ranging. I've also made sonar only attacks, though not in a recent career.

I've not used sonar around enemy escorts. I'm interested in trying a sonar-only attack against a convoy in bad weather. I'm guessing that I can make the attack and escape before the escorts find me.
