Hi-v1.3, career, Asiatic, 6/43. I have Balao, Balao class.

    1. What is significance of the torpedo relaods now having a copper color, rather that gray?

    2. On current patrol, I'm unable to set torpedo speed to fast-How come?

    Thanks, Hugh Browne

those are new torps. m14s they have one speed slow , but I have read that some people use them in aft tubes they are fast loading and when you are being chased you can use them for that purpose.

Mark 13's are the smaller torps.

Mark 14's are the standard torp with two speeds and are steam propelled i believe.

Later marks (or previous) are electronic or homing (they are also different colour). They have only one speed and a certain distance (they are very specific torps but they pack a bigger punch).

Mark 14's are proberly the best choice for fore torpedo tubes. Homing and mabey Mark 13's are best used in the aft of the sub. (Best setup = Mark 14's in fore and aft tubes with mabey 1 or 2 homing torps in the rear).

The copper-colored ones are MK 23s - they are simply MK 14s with the slow setting disabled - they will travel fast (despite what your TDC setting says).

The somewhat shorter ones ar older MK 10s, they have but one speed setting, also.

The real little ones (which take up a whole torpedo rack anyway, grrr) are MK 27 "Cuties" - they home on audio signals and are generally used for defense against a pursuing escort.

Since patch 1.3 you can hover your mouse over the torps and get some info...
