Not hearing a word about this, looks like PS3 get the screws again and nothings going change, I'm disappointed in UBI once again.

Fuggetaboutit not looking like they care too much, most people don't even notice, so why should they fix? I have lost respect for UBI. I just don't understand why it's so hard to fix this.

Now I see it's 29.99 everywhere and still no patch, I feel like an idiot for supporting UBI and buying at launch, they can't even support us by giving the game the proper output. I will not buy UBI games when the first come out anymore, I'm done.

Yeah they don't even respond, nothing going to happen as the game hits the 19.99 price.. So sorry I gave UBI full price for this.

I think you all are confused about what the "problem" is here, if you can call it a problem. It's not that the PS3 version doesn't have good sound; I suspect for many of you, the problem is that the sound is too good.

Rayman Origins on the PS3, at least my version that I bought here in the States in November, has 7.1 48 kHz Linear PCM audio. I confirmed this on my system just now, and it is somewhat corroborated by this blog post. Unfortunately that post also adds to the confusion by erroneously calling it "Dolby Digital 7.1 PCM", which is not actually a thing that exists -- as has been pointed out, there is no Dolby technology in this game.

So the sound we have on the PS3 is 8 channels, and EACH channel is at LEAST 768 kbps. No other console can do that, not even close. Compare this to Dolby Digital 5.1, which is a heavily compressed format that tops out at 640 kbps for all six channels COMBINED.

But, this is a blessing and a curse: it's great to have this 6 Mbps of sound data... IF you have an HDMI A/V receiver. That's way, way too much data to fit in the available bandwidth of an optical cable. And the PS3 has no way to compress the audio on the fly to make it fit. So if you can only do digital audio over optical, then yeah, you're just going to get 2.0 Linear PCM, because that's all your cable can handle.

All that said, I do have to admit that I haven't heard the surround speakers being USED all that much in the game. But then again... I mean, it IS a 2D platformer. What are you expecting to hear behind you?!?

Thanks steve for turning it into a douchy fanboy PS3 rant, every other game that has 7.1 SS like you claim also happens to come with a DD 5.1 and a DTS 5.1 also so your little fanboy rant holds no water please STFU and go far away. Also d o u c h e b a g the 360 has a DD 5.1 track confirmed so there is no excuse for leaving it off a blu ray certainly not an issue of room. I love how people post with no knowledge of anything except there own selfish fanboy motive.

No need to be nasty here. Please make an effort to keep discussions civil and free of name-calling in the future, throwing insults at each other doesn't really add much to discussions.

    Cheers. (:

I get Multichannel (Linear) PCM 5.1 from my receiver when playing this game.

As in all my PS3 games. This is superior to DD 5.1 or DTS.
