So I understand how to use the tool to extract chess set textures, modify them, and put it all back together.
Questions:
(1) How can I use the board from one set with the peices from another set.
(2) How can I make my own board and set? Is there a turorial for this somewhere?

Actually it is possible to make a completely new chess set from scratch (at least 2D). It is also possible to extract two sets, copy the pieces files from one and board files from other, and merge them into a 'new' set. You just have to copy the right files and probably adjust them a little to look better. But it is a delicate work and you certanly wont find a manual anywhere
