There are two festivals about to happen that some of you will be interested in for sure.

www.machinima-expo.com looks like being a major virtual festival, being held in Second Life on the 9th Nov , and will be screening Faith Hope and Charity even though it isn't up for any awards. If you want to see what's happening in this machinima world, then pop in. I'm hoping to be there. If you need help with Second Life, just ask.

The other event is http://festival.machinima.org/ which happens this Saturday, the 1 Nov in New York.
There are no flight sim nominees this time, but in the past they have awarded Bill et John, and nominated Pictures of War. There is a great list of nominees up, though some seem a little out of place, that's probably just because we all have different tastes.

If you want a flavour of what the different machinima and game engines can produce, check out this Expo trailer by Pineapple Pictures:

Some pictures from the Second Life MachinExpo 2008 which Dolittle(Wiley) and I attended.

    Quite an experience!

    The main stage

Joe and Wiley watching the awards announcements

    The jury award winners

Watching "Clear Skies" live in SL. IT wasn't the full resolution but the atmosphere made up for it, with a running chat commentary from the director

Bag the Hun was on display at the Moviestorm stand

FH&C, though not up for an award, had a few scenes screened in a couple of the smaller theatres. Sol Bartz (Overman)'s comments shown.

A special panel with some of the Women in Machinima. This was one of the highlights of the event and was a great discussion.

    I recommend watching Clear Skies:

Am I the only one that finds this whole concept of online awards ceremonies somewhat disturbing ?

Are we about to cross a boundary that should not be crossed ?

When does normal social interaction become meaningless ?

Give me a beer, a conversation and a face to talk to anytime.

Talk to people, for gods sake turn off the computer for once and get out.

I have been to 2 awards ceremonies where I have been fed real food, drunk real beer, laughed real laughs, and met real people, and I loved it.

What we do is fine up to a point. This crosses the line for me, We all need to get a life sometime.

This event was organised because the real life Machinexpo was cancelled.

It meant that many enthusiastic people could still meet and encourage our art.

Good things have come from this, things that may never have been otherwise.

I didnt mean you joe, and didnt mean to sound insulting. But to me this really is not the way to go.

Accepted this was the only way this was going to happen considering the situation, but I fear it may become the norm rather than the exception.
