Here are some photos taken on a recent visit to the Batfish in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The two "old guys" in the pictures are a forum member from New Mexico and myself.

What's the backstory on this....How/Why did a sub end up in the middle of Oklahoma??? 440 miles from Galveston, the closest seawater.

    Poor navigation...

Actually she was brought up the Mississippi and then the Arkansas river which passes by Muskogee.

It looks like they are doing major reconstruction on the decking. Is she still open for touring in this condition, or was this a specially arranged visit? Looks like there is much risk of falling in!

    Nice pictures. Thanks for posting.

Volunteers are replacing all the decking and cleaning up the rust below them. You are limited in where you can walk the deck.

This was the standard visit and is open to the public. I was there on a Sunday and was able to roam free in the boat. The Sunday hours were Noon to 5:00 PM. My senior citizen discount got me in for $8.00 US.

Met an old submariner there. His name was Rick and he had served as a fireman on the Mackerel. Mobility issues kept him from going below with us, but we talked for over an hour. Salty tales from a true old salt. It was a wonderful day for me.

A whole bunch of the Batfish volunteer crew hang out on SUBMARINEMUSEUMS.ORG if you want to know anything about her.

    Link to the Batfish board

The deck is just one of many projects they have going on right now.
