Some nicely frank answers in there. Looks like the game will start small and grow over time.

The Most important thing is that Rise of Flight subject of purchase is a client's key for our game with many different possibilities. Together with our key you will get two beautiful planes - Fokker D7 and SPAD XIII. You will also be able to purchase additional aircrafts on our Internet shop.
Focker D VII - Sept 1917 116mph@3280'
Spad XIII Feb 1917 135mph@6560'
Looks like there will be endless discussion of Turn&Burn V's Boom&Zoom on the rise of flight Forums.
Also the paid modding is a concern.
"provide responsible users with tools for their work so they can get paid for their time" How do they determine who is "responsible". How can you show you are responsible without the tools to make your mod?
Do you have to crack the code, prove you are responsible and then they give you the tools or will you be deamed responsible only if you sign a contract stating that you will use the developers to distribute your mods as a paid products?
I'm probably gonna buy it at some point anyway but I think they have a weird approach. I'll probably end up waiting till the inevitable Super-duper gold pack that includes a few more planes s released. I'm not terribly keen to buy 'a client's key' so that I am then given the privilege of being able to buy more planes from them.
Also, wouldn't the piecemeal integration of planes be a pain for a server? I imagine they've thought of this already but it seems it could be problematic.
the Fokker D.VII was a plane of 1918 </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Originally posted by JG53Frankyboy:

My bad! A case of looking for dates without reading. Was ordered September 1917, but "D III powered DVII didn't start reaching the front until April 1918"
I think the last time I bought a game (sim?) with so few 'come in the box' planes would have been "Werewolf V's Comache" and I'm looking at getting that Black Shark game with it's one only flyable so who knows. This could work!
I guess I'ld only have to buy the SE5a and I'ld be a happy camper!
Cheers!
I think the idea is that new (AI) aircraft will be made available in updates, but in order to fly them, you will have to buy them (the cockpit that is). Hence, no problems with online compatibility as long as everyone has the latest updates. Actually, I like the idea (until someone cracks the system and starts to distribute cockpits). It would however be nice if we could test the aircraft before buying
About the Fokker DVII : The production version was built and selected by the end of january/beginning of february 1918 during the fighter competition then held near Berlin so it couldn't have been ordered in 1917...
Only going by the paragraph in my book, will post the details when I get home tonight.Originally posted by Vanderstok:

If the contest was in January there would have had to been a reasonable amount of development before the contest. My text did not specify what the order was for.
It would really depend on if the aircraft was ordered to a specification? If the order had to be issued before a prototype could be built, was it governemt funded or a private venture?
In WWII aircraft like the P51 were ordered before a prototype of the aircraft was constructed on the basis that if it didn't live up to expectations the british would have P-40's built for them instead.
If you go to modern times the RAAF has placed orders for the JSF way before there was any hint of a production model.
Lots of thing to consider in this respect.
Cheers
