Got to www.ati.com and do a side by side product comparison. Seems clock speeds are a little faster and the X850XT PE reads Gpixels and Mtriangles a little faster. You can see for yourself at the link I posted here. Oh yea, and the factory heatsink that comes on the X850XT PE is akin to the ATI Silencer as it blows the hot air out the back of your computers case. Allot better system than the X800XT PE heatsinks for sure.
800XT PE = 520 MHz core clock, 1120 memory clock
850 XT PE = 540 Mhz core,1180 memory clock
At 400 core clock 980 memory clock the 800 Xl is nothing to overlook when you consider that they go 200 to 300 dollers less.
I could tell you some in game averages that I and another -HH- get with 6 to 8 live bodies and 20+ AI planes on our X800 XT PE's but we just get called fanboys by the Nvidia faithful or worse outright liars. Suffice it to say its very very purdy.
Well, it may be pretty for screenshots, but what good does it do if you can't get playable fps with it? No machine can currently run this game maxed out in all situations.Originally posted by FiReLiOn1800:
my next card will be ATI i think...but i will say that my 6800 gt runs this game well...sorry to say but you ATI boys dont have our perfect water yet...unless the 850 supports SM3...and by the way spinter cell Chaos Theory looks outstanding in SM3
To expand on what Coastie is saying here...
1) Only a couple of games use pixel shader 3.0 and in both cases, the frame rates are unplayable. No major game that I know of except for BoB will use 3.0 and the pace of CPU performance increases has slowed to a relative crawl in the last two years and will stay that way until some major breakthrough in material sciences happens. In other words, each increase we get from now on will be both expensive and in smaller steps.
2) As power hungry the 16 pixel pipeline ATI cards are, they are not nearly as bad as the newer nVidia cards that way.
3) Reviews these days are being less than genuine when dealing with 16 pixel pipeline video cards. As you start dealing with 4X AA & AF and more, the ATI cards shine well past the nVidia cards which both take a bigger frame rate hit AND do not deliver the same increase in actual picture quality at the same time. Someone tried to tell me AA & AF are outdated because "everyone" will soon be using settings higher than 1600 X 1200 resolution... that Dude needs to see point #1.
4) Even nVidia's version of SLI is very dated technology and ATI will come out shortly with a dual card system that is simple and requires no profiles or any other buggy, nonworkable deals like it. Instead of splitting the screen between the cards, the ATI syste, will simply have the lighter pixels on one card and the darker ones on the other. Going with nVidia's SLI now is like going to RDRAM... it is expensive and gains you little in real world performance regardless of the less than genuine reviews you may have seen... and unlike RDRAM, nVidia's SLI is buggy!
Coastie chill out buddy...
