I am thinking of buying a barebone kit from tiger direct to put together a gaming rig but I am on a budget and I am new to doing that kind of thing. I was wondering if I will need to buy and install windows for that when I build it. Also, I am considering a GeForce GTS450 Graphics card, anybody here ever use one?
That's the route I'm thinking of going as well, for the same reasons: budget and noobishness. I'm hanging on the specs so I can start figuring out what I need </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
It looks like I may be diving right in and learning it that way, and then comes the bumpy road of getting it all to work right. But I could end up with a pretty sweet low cost set-up if all goes well.

You both might also check NewEgg too. They sell some barebones systems also. I've bought my parts from them for my last four builds. Great place to deal with.

Building your own isn't as hard as you might think. The hardest part is hitting the power switch for the first time. Still makes me nervous.

Newegg often sells Ibuypower computers which is where I got mine from directly. If you get them directly from Ibuypower you can tell them exactly what you want, though you have to do a bit of research so you can do so. If you get them through Newegg they are a prepackaged thing, I'd rather have more control over what I'm getting. In any case Ibuypower is scarcely more than if you bought the invidivual parts yourself on Newegg and put it together yoruself.

A 450 is probably kinda weak, you'd probably want to get at least a 460, they're not too pricy compared with other new cards.

Well at least I have some real sound power going on now thats for sure.
I took my old Kenwood 250Watt stereo amp and plugged the PC audio-out into the amp's AV AUX-in with it going through two Bose 201 speakers on the shelf above my computer desk. It cranks. It shakes the windows.

I have the same thing going on . Simpit, 120" screen, Track IR5, and over 1400W RMS power driving Dali Ikon 2 speakers and BK Monolith DF+ subwoofer is going to be insane. It allready rocks in ROF but I really hope Oleg has some good soundsystem built in to the game so I can take advantage of my setup.

Now back to the topic. Does anyone know has there been any talk about Ati Crossfire support? Because I have two Ati5770 cards in CF and if CF is supported I should be ok but with only one card working I would be in big trouble.

+1 for the do-it-yourself thing, you can save a bunch of money if you do the research and the shopping, and you get what YOU want. Buy the parts separately, even if you get someone to put it together for you (which is recommended, unless you know what you're doing). I think I paid someone $30 for assembly of my last rig. It's peanuts when talking about a $1500 system - and the possibility of blowing it up first thing because you didn't hook something up right.

That is basically what you do with Ibuypower if you make a custom order. I talked to all the tech gurus here like Urufu for advice about what parts to order, and sent in my request and a few weeks later the computer showed up, shipping free of charge.

where do you think I stand right now with my Intel Core2 Quad CPU @2.40GHz and 4 Gigs of RAM?

something tells me its not gonna be enough.

"Core2 Quad?" I dunno, it could be ok, you might want to see if you can overclock it a bit. I've never really understood whether an i7 quad-core is better than a similar non-i7 quad core but I think i7's are just a lot more efficient. Your graphics card will probably matter, you didn't list it.

I think you will be fine, and you can easily pump the Core 2 CPU over 3 gigs without upgrading your cpu cooler.
