Big? yeah.
Ugly? Hell no!
Slow? Try the opposite (for those who don't understand, that is also a no!)
Impossible to maneuver? Except for the Balao and perhaps S-class yeah
Badly built? No, just not as advanced as their german counterparts.
Useless? They did have their part in victory right?!
Tin cans? Hardly. I have suffered hits from my own torpedoes and survived.

I wish some one could port over a VIIC from SH3 for me to use in SHIV.
These lumbering American subs are junk piles like their cars. Huge, ugly, slow, impossible to manoeuver, badly built and useless. Tin cans which the slightest scratch will sink.![]()
Dun ask me, but I kinda like the US subs by now. Sure, they are not as refined as their german counterparts, but they have a certain "atmosphere" to them I like. They also have that speical "40"ies feeling to them, the same designlines like the cars and planes from that area, distinctivly american. It really fits into the greater picture.
I felt the same way at first but, and it's a BIG but, i attribute my dislike to two things; 1)The damage model is porked! (addressed in the next patch)
2)The interface is UGLY -as in the games GUI. The one in SH3 was pure bliss, what with every station easily 'clicked' on to go there, and things like the periscope water level indicator (Can't remember it's exact name) .
SH4 GUI was one of those scenarios were you are yourself; "If it aint broke, why did they 'fix it'!"
Those are my pet hates on SH4 -note it would be the same if SH3 was 4; if you get my meaning![]()
Actually, if someone would come up with a patch to allow the use of the engines in steering as was practice in real life, these things would turn like a sports car.
I mean you put the rudder hard over, all back on one engine, all ahead on the other, you could turn one of these babies and cut the turning radius in half.
