I found Finland to be a surprisingly interesting place. They really crack down hard on any kind of drunk driving. Does this stop the party?... certainly not! They have shuttle busses that pick you up and take you to the clubs and they are a party in of themselves. If you are young or even young at heart, I'd strongly suggest you make Finland part of the tour.

Fun thread--there are some well-traveled folks here.

    1. United States (live here now)
    2. Romania (used to live there)
    3. Canada
    4. England
    5. Scotland
    6. Wales
    7. Ireland
    8. The Netherlands
    9. Belgium
    10. France
    11. Germany
    12. Switzerland
    13. Austria
    14. Italy
    15. San Marino (hey, someone else counted it)
    16. Vatican City (see above)
    17. Slovenia
    18. Croatia
    19. Serbia and Montenegro
    20. Macedonia (love Lake Ohrid!)
    21. Albania (that was interesting)
    22. The Czech Republic
    23. Slovakia
    24. Hungary
    25. Bulgaria
    26. Turkey
    27. Finland
    28. Russia
    29. Ukraine
    30. Moldova
    31. Spain
    32. Japan
    33. China (PRC)
    34. Hong Kong

I passed through Luxembourg by train and have spent some time in Copenhagen's airport, but these don't really count.

Albania takes the prize for 'country with the most beautiful location'--and that location would be the beach below the village of Dhermi. The mountains plunge right into the Ionian there; there's also a fine, white-pebble beach with a little hotel where you can stay and enjoy the crystal-clear blue water and local seafood. Just fantastic. Of course this was in 1995, so things may have changed a bit, at least in terms of the hotel...

Mortoma- you wrote "I'd also think Aussies and Kiwis would have a disadvantage as far as travel, since they are so isolated, I'd think their travel costs would be exorbitant."
I can understand you thinking that, but most young Aussies and Kiwis see it as a right-of-passage to travel to different countries. I think it has to do with us being at the a*rse end of the world and always wondering what everyone else is up to. As with most things in life, if you want something enough you'll find a way. Most Americans i met while briefly in Washington state seemed to have no desire to travel beyond the north american continent.
I recall being asked by a guy in Utrecht (Netherlands) how long the ferry took from Sydney (Australia) to Auckland (New Zealand). He was shocked when i explained to him that it takes 3hours in a 747! I guess he reasoned that because Aussies and Kiwis hang out together overseas that they would be geographically close.
A lot of Europeans i know were also amused to discover how few Aussies there are- our country may be the same size as continental USA but our population has only just reached 20 million (just a bit more than Greater London).
During WW2 our population was under 5 million, which is why you we were so greatful for the help the USA provided during the pacific war (I'm trying hard to bring the topic back to some relevance for the board)

I know exactly what it is and Chavez is one of them. The country he presides over is not there yet but he wants it to get there and he plans to stay in power for 25 years. Sounds like a dictator to me!!! Any country like Venezuela would take time to convert and change to a different type of system. Most of the people in Venezuela would agree with me by the way, that he wants to change it eventually. The battle cry of the anti-Chavez people is "Bolivar no fue una comunista!!" Meaning that Simon Bolivar was not a communist. So ME THINKS that you don't know what you're talking about!!!! So STFU!!!!!!
How many times have you been there to Venezuela?? ??Habla espanol?? !!!probablemente no!!
