Actually, I am posting to try and keep people from wasting their money, futile as it is. If people want to throw their money into the bottomless black hole that is Ubisoft, that is their choice, but I have to TRY and tell them the uselessness of it.
Who knows, maybe I CAN keep one poor sucker from falling for their cons. If I can, then my time is well spent.![]()
Yes, those are good examples of Russia stealing US/Western tech, however my point is from a cultural perspective Russia does not have the same standard as the US regarding equipment loadout for their soldiers, even spec op units like Alpha or Spestnaz. Yes, they give them gear that is much better than the average soldier, however they do not bother with gear like what the Future Force Warrior program in the US aimed to do.Originally posted by PALADIN_BS:
Don't mean to be a dic but Eastern powers ( China and Russia ) are very good at getting the US to spend the money on expensive cutting edge technology then stealing it.
Example 1 : Russian uses spies to get the nuclear fission bomb at least 5 earlier than they were capable of.
Example 2 : China uses hackers to get the plans for a neutron bomb, which they were at least a decade away from making themselves.
Gear like sensor grenades that the US is researching and has in prototype form is not something Russia would bother with. They do not take the same approach as the US.
A good book to read if you're interested on the impact culture has on what Russia, the US and Israel have focused on in terms of advanced military tech is found in "The Culture of Military Innovation" by Dima Adamsky. This book articulates better than me how Russia tends to develop certain technologies as a reflection of their cultural mindset.
With this in mind, current budget trends and the sad state of Russian industry, it is HIGHLY implausible that Russia would have gear as depicted in the game. Russians would just as soon as use a thermobaric rocket in a building that has the enemy along with civilians rather than shoot a sensor grenade that would map where the hostiles are.
Yes, it's a game, but if die hard GR fans argue about the realism of tech for the Ghosts, shouldn't we/they expect accuracy/realism to ALSO be the case for the Russians' tech gear who are opposing the Ghosts in the game??
