Soon I hope. I am dissappointed with Heroes 5... All it is is Heroes 3 with better graphics, less content, and worse maps.

Heroes 3 was defiently the high point of the series and Heroes 5 capitalizes on that strength, sure the graphics are better and the combat system has improved a bit. But Heroes 3 had A LOT more content.

More and better maps, more artifacts, more heroes, more hero classes. a lot more neutral monsters, more spells and the races were more original. Dungeon, Fortress and Stronghold were far more interesting.

Plus there was also the wake of gods mod pack for heroes 3 that released more monsters, items and battle commanders "which were essentially, a hero type unit that could fight in battle, but level up and use specific equipment and learn their own skills" worked very well along side your hero who played the traditional role of chilling out and casting spells.

Heroes 5 just really doesn't bring ANYTHING new to the table sadly, graphically and additions to combat is a step forward, but everything else is a step backwards.

What they really need to do is defiently keep with the tadition and strong point of the series that was Heroes 3... Look at the wake of the gods mod that added a lot of improvements to the game. Utilize the few strengths that heroes 4 had, while introducing some new and fresh concepts.

One of my biggest complaints (apart from the rushed bugged version, lazy patching and AI) was the fact that every faction essentially was a bunch of humans with a few random creatures thrown in for fun....

Apart from infernal and I guess undead, everyone is just a human spell caster, a human archer, a human solider, a human on a mount.... oh and look we threw in an angel, or a dragon, or one other random monster that might fit with these guys. (well if you want to split hairs elves... but the same $%@# different bucket)

I also don't think creatures abilities played a big enough role.

Yah, that's another thing i didn't like is that the races were not as original as any previous Heroes game. Heroes 5 featured the most un-original unit composition for races to date... I detest what they did to the old fortress and old dungeon... Very monster oriented races, and both were given the boot in favor of a dark elf and dwarf clone army. We so did not need 2 seperate elven armies and dwarves never needed their own castle.

I'm all good with dark elves and dwarves, they just didn't need their own race, not if it meant giving the boot to the old Dungeon and Fortress, which were MUCH cooler and far more original. I mean come on, beholders, chimeras, medusas, basilisks, gorgons, etc. and they picked dwarves over that?

These words could easily apply to any of the games in the heroes series.

For example the heroes 3 dungeon bears no resemblance to those that came before (and after) it.

None of the games is perfect. There are tons of fan maps for all the games and all the games are fun. I've got plenty on my plate, I don't need a heroes 6 yet.

As far as game balance there are fewer banned things in h5 multi (when it works) than in h3 multi.

The closest thing we have to a word i think is something Chuckles mentioned at some point.

What did he say? Hasn't been around for a while has he?

Edit: because it looks like you are referring to him saying

    "damn you dane, damn you"

The H3 model with more monsters was definitely more fun, but H5's groupings do make more sense. Dwarves and elves don't make cities together, and dwarves certainly don't hang out in forests. The H3 dungeon was a hodgepodge of mythical creatures that you find nowhere other than D&D random encounter dicerolls.

Still, I preferred H3's fun/wierd town combos over some of the H5 races. The H5 races of dwarves and orcs, and to a lesser extent elves and dark elves, and just boring in appearance and abilities. Especially the dwarves.

Well I for one love the new Dungeon and Fortress. I hated the old Dungeon. If they want to make a new faction that specializes in a wide variety of freaks they're free to. In fact, if they chose to make Dungeon 100% Dark elven I'd be fine with that too. If HVI reverted to old Dungeon, I would not buy it, simple as that. Maybe one of the newer factions will focus on the various oddities old Dungeon and Fortress had - and hopefully take the Minotaurs with it. I'd like the Manticore for new Dungeon though. All I wish Nival would do is a) be more consistent b) less lame.

...as for Dwarves and Elves, it depends. Some do make cities together. Specific D&D settings have examples of this. But usually elves prefer forests, dwarves the insides of mountains.
