My rig runs a little choppy with clouds on...when offline I turn clouds off in difficulty settings. But when I want to join online most hosts always have clouds on. Is there anything I can do other than hosting my own game with clouds off?

Hmmm... maybe you could reduce your overall graphical quality a tad?

Hmmm... I think the clouds are a server-side setting, and therefore unchangeable by individual players. Anyone?

IIRC, if "new" clouds are on you're stuck with them, but if the server has chosen "old" clouds you can control whether they're "Medium" or "Detailed". The difference is mostly draw distance, but shorter draw distance means less clouds rendered which in turn means less load on your system.

also in set up, set your connection speed to the lowest, even if on broadband/ADSL put it to 14k or 56k etc. this reduces the amount of info the host pc sends back and forth and will speed it up a bit
