If any of you are running 4.0 without it putting much of a performance hit on your rigs, could you all share the main specs on your rig. Such as cpu speed, how much and type of ram, etc. Also, if you are running it with Perfect Landscape enabled.

The reason I want to know is that before its' release(unofficial though it may be at this time), some of the concern that some of us had was wether or not our rigs would be able to run it. Well, if you guys that are running alright would share the specs on your rigs, it will shed light and maybe ease worries for those of us that aren't sure if they will be able to run it very well. Thanks m8's!

The new clouds cause a noticable frame hit, at least on my cr@p machine.

    1.5ghz, Ti4400, 512mb.

But it's still playable for me. Anyone with a decent system shouldn't have a problem, I don't think.

New clouds hurt a bit, especially in overcast conditions, but not enough for me to turn off the pretties. I get 80 fps in clear skies, 50 with light cloud cover, and 35 in a thunderstorm. So far the new flight model doesn't seem to be hurting me any.

Athlon XP 2200+, GeForce FX 5900XT, 768meg of "I've forgotten the speed" DDR RAM

I think with clouds set to "clear" you wont notice much fps hit at all, as you increase the cover the hit does come though the overcasts are awesome and well worth it! For me in overcase conditions with lots of players and AI it can get down in the low teens when I fly in a cloud or right on the edge of them, but generally its fine.

I run 1280x960 res, 2XAA and 2XAF Perfect mode, on a PIV 2.8 with 1gig of ram, and a nVidia 6800 (the low end of the 6800's with 128 megs onboard mem) I average 49 fps on typical df map with "Good" clouds, higher with clear, around 39 with "poor" and 30-35 when out of the clouds with the weather set at "Rain/thunder". All in all it's pretty good!

PIV 2.6 Ghz, 1 Gb ram and Geforce Ti-4200 here.
Turned off the new clouds as they took too much FPS. But that seems to be the only thing causing a big loss of FPS, besides that I can do pretty much everything I could before.
Running on excellent settings btw, abandoned perfect quite a while ago.

My FX5700 isn't up to running the new clouds but it'll soon be replaced. I simply can't enjoy the game anymore without AA... New FM & AI isn't a problem even with loads of planes - my cpu is an AMD 3000+ @ 2200.

Works great for me... I didn't run any before/after frame rate tests, but I noticed no obvious drop in performance. I tested various levels of cloud cover offline, all seemed fine. I played online with 16 players on the server and it was smooth as glass. Most of my squad mates said it was smooth for them as well.

Thanks m8's. These posts should alleviate some of the concerns that some may have about 4.0 or 4.1, whatever it turns out being called. I was worried that this new patch would leave some of our community behind. But after reading your remarks, the majority, if not all of us shouldn't have any problems and should be able to play it. Thanks again!

Well I dont know about that...Im running it all maxed out, with an average of 35+fps in most situations and I found a real hit with the new clouds, so I did the config file clouds=0 (what ever it is) which sets it back to 3.04m settings, and its all good again, the fps are the same (if not better)and (art is in the eye of the beholder) looks better IMHO, I have to say i dont like the new clouds, to me it looks a bit...I dont know wrong, artifichial? I dont know, I just know on my rig, the 'old clouds' look awsome, and preform awsome. I just prefer them to the newies thats all.
Love the Spitty with the 4 cannons but.

I'm running at the same or better fps than 3.04 so far ~ 35fps even with the new clouds.

    P4 2.4C, 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM, Abit IS7 (i865PE chipset) and ATI 9700 (non-pro) card.
