Agree with Steve, great approach and this is the way one avoids getting ripped off or having buyers remorse down the road, commendable indeed.
As to where I got the lifetime warranty info, it was in the newegg comparison page here. It shows a lifetime manufacturers warranty but the EVGA website says two years so probably a mistake on neweggs part, though if someone ordered it based on the warranty info I'm sure the Egg would make it right.
Which card is best and at what expense are your tailored preferences.
If you want a lifetime warranty from EVGA, then you want model numbers ending in AR. TR is the two year warranty. The same 1371 model can be gotten at newegg with parts/labor lifetime warranty:

There are many factors that come into play with cooling that you might want to investigate. Are you planning to oc? If so, how will your case handle the warmer air that is exhausted into it? Sound is another consideration. Is noise a factor and how how much louder is the fan between the models? How about if you oc the gpu? How do you use your computer? I watch movies and online sports and prefer a quieter card at default settings, but would want the option of an oc profile that can be loaded for gaming.
The decision becomes simpler after you identify exactly what you're wanting and needing from a video card.
Thanks everyone for all the help! With steves help I've decided to go with the lesser expensive card from Buy.com. I don't overclock and my tower is built to handle the ventilation pretty well. I dont' care much about sound either for me it comes down to raw cost. I'm on a tight budget and it looks like this one will do just fine.
Now the power supply! I would prefer to find one on Buy.com since i'm getting the card there. This one http://www.buy.com/prod/corsai...c/101/217390957.html looks to be the same one as Urufu recommended a little earlier from New Egg. Does this one look decent? It's a bit on the high side of my price range but I can swing it. Can i find a 750 for the same or maybe even less cost that will do the trick for years to come?
The psu you've selected at buy is identical to the model Urufu recommended, Mfg Part#: CMPSU-600CX. It is in the Corsair Value Series and is the top wattage that line offers. To step up to 750 watts will require a larger expenditure from you. Hers a link to the Corsair psu calculator if you're interested.

As stated, this is a value series psu and won't be able to do the trick for years to come. It should however do the trick for at least as long as this build is operational. You've asked all the right questions and it appears to me you've gotten the most bang for the buck as is possible.
Have fun with the new card and maxed out graphics.
True, but you have to remember that this is a CORSAIR PSU, and even their "value" PSUs are high quality.Originally posted by steve_v:
As stated, this is a value series psu ...
Assuming that he's not going to 'load up' his system with a lot of HDDs, a 2nd vid card, and/or doing some heavy OCing, that PSU should last for the lifetime of that system and more.
Thanks again everyone! I'm going to get these two items ordered today. I'll report back when I get them all installed. It's really hard for me to spend the money on it. My game runs very smooth and my graphics really are good. This isn't something I MUST have. Since I'm going to start making some movies I need it. I'm sure it's going to make a huge difference in that. The little jagged lines that don't bother me will bother those watching my movies!!!!
A monitor will be the next purchase! My dad gave me a very nice 21" ViewSonic G 810 CRT. It worked great for him, plugged it into my PC and everything is blurry. Tried it in other PCs and same problem. Something inside must have gotten messed up in the transit. If I could get her fixed I'd have something!
Anyway, thanks again all!
I'm going to plug it up and try again. Where was your restore at? Was it inside someplace or in the display options on the monitor itself?
I found a thread someplace that fixed one by doing some type of cold boot. Unplug the monitor for about 10 minutes, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and it's supposed to release all the stored electricity. Going to give that a shot and I'll look for the restore you mentioned.
Buy.com is great so far! I chose the free shipping and they shipped the thing FedEx overnight for free. I'll have the card today. I bought the power supply from amazon since it was $20.00 less and free shipping too. They still haven't shipped it. I'll be patient. I waited this long.
It's been a while but it was in the onscreen monitor menu (the one you get with the physical buttons on the monitor). I don't recall what it was titled but that's likely to be different between manufacturers anyway, assuming your monitor has this option. I got this monitor used and it was a little blurry, but not bad, and I had to have the brightness all the way up just to see anything. When I first saw the restore option and tried to use it I got a message saying "Monitor must warm up first" and it took me quite some time before I was able to get it to work because the monitor had to actually be displaying something for over 30 minutes before the function worked, when it did the screen turned all kinds of colors (probably degaussed itself first) then the screen went solid white and appeared to cycle through the entire brightness range several times in some sort of cascading pattern down the screen, was kinda cool to watch, lol. When it was done though the screen was much clearer and the brightness issue was fixed, it was like a new monitor again (except for the slight burn-in from the previous business owner who apparently didn't know what a screensaver was for, lol). My brother bought that monitor from someone for $60 but got so tired of the low brightness and the blur (the burn in really wasn't that bad, you could only see it on pure white backgrounds) that he just gave it to me for free. I was so thrilled when I ran that restore feature and fixed 98% of the problems that I had to call him up and totally ruin his day by letting him know he gave away a perfectly good 21" Sony Trinitron flat CRT, which in those days were VERY expensive new.![]()
Power supply should be here today or tomorrow. I'll have the new baby hooked up soon!
I tryed the big View Sonic again and she just isn't going to work. I've given up. Of course my 8 year old heard me say that and said, "Dad, you said it's never good to give you. You can't do that."
Any thoughts on a good flat screen under $200? There are a lot under $200 with a 2ms response time. What else do I look for? I will hold off until I have more money if I have too.
