Hehe, I've already put out a total of 16 mod releases for the game. The latest versions are:
Real Fleet Boat 1.13: SH4's equivalent to SH3's Real U-boat mod. Gives hardcore realism fans the most authentic simulation possible.
Pacific Theater Mod 1.12: SH4's equivalent to SH3's Flotilla mod. Gives players 16 more start dates and a new sub base in the Aleutians. No one should be without this mod.
BeeryCamera 3: more flexibility and freedom for the free camera, the object camera and the career room (office) camera.
Real Fleet Boat 1.13: this one replaces the left-over SH3 German note in the S-class subs with a humorous note about the infamous 'Bernard'.
LOL your funny, I havent seen one computer game manufacturer ever produce a real usefull written by game players manual. I especially like how ubisoft duplicated the items in the poster and put them into the manual to bulk it up thats a classic touch. My theory is that the manuals department has to justify its existance by including a certain amount of word count/page count otherwise they dont get paid why else would they give you 99% useless ****. Actually thinking the game manufacturer cares about you having a quality gaming experience "priceless"!Originally posted by Beeryus:
Yeah, it's weird, you'd think a manual that has 100 pages devoted to the game might be able to squeeze in some info about how to actually complete campaign missions - but apparently not. When I first saw the manual I thought to myself "Wow! It looks like they've actually spent some time and done a good job on the manual this time". That was until I read it. Until I saw the SH4 manual I would never have thought that six pages of useful info could be padded to 100 pages by the addition of 94 pages of stuff we don't need. I wouldn't mind the reams of useless garbage if everything we needed was in there, but it's not.
Does anyone else think its again silly to have to do the missions anyway? In SH3 I really hated to have to navigate billions of miles out of the prime hunting areas just to sit in an area thats unproductive and waste 24 hours on maximum compression. Who ever thought doing this would be fun?Originally posted by Frumpkis:
Another bump for a noble cause. On those "patrol" missions I've just been going to the star, then sitting on the surface and time-compressing 48 hours. I usually have to zoom the map in and out to see the star finally gray out, after 48 hrs (yet another bug). If I try to actually "patrol" around the star, it's just too dicey figuring out when I've gone too far away.
Needless to say, this is really silly. I hope the operational ranges for patrol missions are greatly extended, either from dev patching or user mods in the future. This is a holdover from one of the bad mission design concepts in SH3.
My funny what?Originally posted by megabyte29:
LOL your funny,
Then you must be very young or have limited combat simulation game experience. The Falcon flight sims had perfect manuals, as did Microprose's M1 Tank Platoon and B-17 II games. Back in the early to mid 1990s detailed and useful manuals were standard for combat sim games.I havent seen one computer game manufacturer ever produce a real usefull written by game players manual.
Thank you, Beeryus. As you say, there are no hints in the manual about how to accomplish each mission. In my first mission, my orders were to make space for a landing six man party, so what do I do – remove some crew? Instead, I sent my all crew on shore leave until the landing party decides to arrive. Thankfully the war has stopped and just as well too, as the deck gun cannot hit a stationary target at 1000m.
G'day
I have found it's pretty useless using the deck gun on 'automatic' unless you are parked right next to the target. At the very best it manages a one-in-three hit.
It's much more accurate - and fun - to do the shooting yourself.
HOWEVER ... I find it a right royal pain in the you-know-where that there is no range finder on the gun-site (unless I am going blind?). I have to check the original range on the 'scope and then guestimate it all fronm there. But, in a way, that adds to the fun as well.
Good hunting all.
